what I don't understand is why you're doing it now, and why you need to find humor in it. Nothing else. I wouldnt care at all if he wasn't actually clinging to the last bits of his life right now.

PS. are you one of those people who treat funerals as parties?

Montreal is a cool city too, and I haven't been there in a few years.

That'd be a cool place to meet up, I think it's a little easier to get to from your area as well. You know, getting a hotel room and partying there sometime this summer might not be a bad idea...

I'm game :yesnod:

Of course I don't treat funerals as parties.

And the reason I'm doing it now is because it's more topical now, and thus funnier.

I find the fact that there are all these people praying and moaning over what's really just the death of another old man. The catholic church is a worn out, useless, old fashioned, silly institution. It would be nice to see it going the way of the pope.

If you don't get the joke, you don't have to participate. Your moral superiority games aren't as funny as mocking the pope.

just another old man? Uhhhhhhhhh since when are you a purely subjective and existentialist person? Not everyone is as equal as everyone else, even though they're still people.

Could you please explain to me how making fun of the pope dying is a bad thing?

Now, of course it's insensitive, no shit. But why is that bad? Is anyone getting hurt by it? Is it making the pope sadder? Making his death more painful? What? What's the deal?

Well, I doubt it'll give them a deadly urinary tract infection or anything.

If anything, they'll get to hate me, and it'll boost their egos, with the comforting thought that they are morally superior to me.

I was thinking some more about this, and I don't think your statement really matches your condemnation of me.

You're acting like I've done something seriously morally wrong, but at the very worst, all I've done is offend you a little bit. I doubt I've caused you any real inconvenience, or even made you feel violated.

And from what I can tell, you're the only one that's even offended.

Is the slight distaste I've created in you for me, really enough to warrant treating me like I'm scum?

From http://www.whosoever.org/v5i4/offense.html :

In early July John Paul expressed `bitterness for the insult' of homosexual men and women gathering in Rome during the grand Jubilee of the year 2000. In addition, the Pope underscored the "offense to Christian values" that, he said, was caused by homosexuals.

This from the guy that represented "tolerance".

Here is a sequence of images that tells a story:

I think that was meant as some kind of blow to the people who said that Terry Shiavo should be allowed to "die with dignity".
