Mold growing in UltraSonic
    #3980882 - 03/28/05 06:06 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Noticed some blackish spots growing on the inside of the tube that connects the ultra sonic to the grow box. DAMN IT. So i replace the hose and cleaned out the US with alcohol in every place i could reach. Is there any other measures i could take to clean it out better and/or prevent this in the future? Like running a 50/50 water hyrogenperoxide mix in the US for a while?

On a side note, just wanted to throw this out there. A nifty way to connect your humidifier to your martha is to cut a hydrogen peroxide bottle in a lil less than half. Then cut it so that what looks like a mushroom or a penis extends down. A typical 3/4" tube will fit nicely through the top of the bottle and the mushroom extension will hold a lil bucket (made from a small plastic cup and bent paperclip) to catch water. Then cut a small hole in the vinyl and shove the bottle through (from the bottom up) to strech the hole to the right size and with a very snug fit.

Thanks

edit:God, I confuse myself.

I meant, I use peroxide/water mix.

Then after you get a new one, clean it with alcohol, before you use it and every so often.

Try iodine for future prevention. It doesnt break down in light. You only need a few drops...how much..I'm not really sure..I'd like to know myself...perhaps Hyphae will see this, I know he uses iodine..

try bleach, You will have to kill the roots of the fungi. Kind of like cleaning your shower, spraying the mold with bleach kills it.

Like tahoe said, use bleach.

A 10% solution should do the trick. (I like a 20% solution myself )

You have to wash out your humidifiers every 1-2 months, or baceria will build up like a mofo.

EDIT:: I may not be right on this, but I believe iodine isn't a good thing to put in your ultrasonic humidifier water.

straight bleach out of the bottle. Hell you can probably put a tsp in the humidifier and run it

Hmm you may very well be right about the iodine in the ultra. I really dont know..havnt researched much on it..I remember Hyphae mentioning using it though..maybe it was for cool mists though...

Id definatly clean it with bleach either way. Worked for mine when I had some stuff growing. It looked like it might have been cubie myc though...didnt have a problem with contams either with it growing..weird

it MAY not be good but I'm not sure what effect the the vibrations would have on the chlorine. It could destroy the bleach. Although it could suffocate your cakes.
