EQ's, no progress since birth

Looking for insight and advice.... I birthed 3 EQ cakes 8-9 days ago. At first, I had what I believe was a humidity problem, my terrarium wasn't air tight. Rectified that with some weather stripping, then stuck the terrarium outside in when it was raining. Got my humidity up, and have been able to maintain visible humidity for the past 4 days. At that time, I also moved 1 of the 3 cakes into a smaller container, very much along the lines of the Poor Man's, just for comparison. These cakes do not seem to be doing anything. I have read that EQ's can be stubborn. Is it too late for me to try some type of cold shock to get them moving, or am I being too impatient? I also have some B+ 1/4 pint jars that are ready to be born - should I cold shock those, as well? If so, do I do this by just throwing the jar in the fridge? Lid tight, lid loose? I have not seen much on cold shock teks, so I'm a little stupid in that area. Thanks!!!

throw your whole terr. in the fridge....if it will fit. Make sure your fridge is clean. I do this all the time.....but i case. So i just throw the case (covered with tinfoil) in the fridge for38-40 hr. Take'em out and put back in the terr. at normall temp., humidity, ect.

EQ's are very stubborn. Afoaf got em to pin in the poor mans terranium just two or 3 cakes out of eight. Then He cased them and no more pins again they were very stubborn and dissapionting to work with so he says.Try Thai ks and Mazatapec if you want something that will pin no matter what! If you go with mazatapecs get em from T.H.E. I beilive there isolates are better:) Hope it works out for ya

Get rubbermaid container, put moistened perlite about a inch on the bottom of the rubbermaid. Put some dry vermiculite on the lids when they are upside down. Put the cake on top of the dry vermic, then run a little water on the dry vermic to soak it. then place those cakes, which are on the lids on top of the perlite. Put the lid on, DO NOT make it airtight!!! Then put in light and fan once or twice a day.

I don't want it air tight? I thought the semi-loose lid was the reason I couldn't get my humidity up. I bought a hygrometer today, just put it in and I'm waiting to see what it says. I took the smaller terrarium and popped it in the fridge, and also took a couple of my b+ jars and popped them in as well. I have been fanning the larger terrarium 2-3 times a day, and the smaller one 4-5 times. They're both getting plenty of light, and their temps are between 72 and 76 degrees every time I check them. Should I remove the weatherstripping? If so, how to I keep the humidity in there?

The perlite keeps it giving off continuous humidity, so you need the lid cracked for air exchange.

Well, my hygrometer is showing 85%, in both terrariums. Planning on trying the calibration thing this evening, since I did buy only a cheapie lizard type at the pet store - 8.99. I'm still seeing no change in my cakes. I ditched my BIG terrarium, and went with a smaller 11 qt Rubbermaid container last night, along with the little poor man size Rubbermaid I just pulled from the fridge. I previously believed that humidity would be visible, but after MANY hours of searches through the archives, I have now stumbled upon info that leads me to believe that very high humidity may NOT be visible on the lid and walls of the terrarium. Is this true? I have a digital camera, so tonight I'm going to pull my cakes out and try to get some nice clean pics...maybe some of you veterans will be able to tell me shed some light on my problem with the aid of a visual. I birthed 2 B+ cakes this a.m., in case my problem is with the strain, rather than the setup. My searches did lead to several posts stating that EQ's are sometimes hard to get pinning. Most frustrating is that I fostered out 2 of my babies to friends. They are both using poor man type setups, 1 with a little perlite, the other with wet paper towels. Their cakes have both developed puffy white growth all over, and mine look the same as when they were born. One of my foster children does have pins, some of which happened invitro, but others that have since appeared. One of my cakes did have 3 little pins invitro, which have done nothing since birth. During innoculation, I loosened my lids and allowed more air exchange than either of my friends did, and my cakes now look dry to my (very) untrained eye. If my hygrometer is correct, and I am only achieving 85% humidity, will my poor cakes ever perform? I'm beginning to wonder if I should concentrate on casing instead. My research leads me to believe that casing does better with a little less humidity. Is this correct? Thank you to all that have replied, I am taking all of your advice seriously. I am damned determined to get the hang of this hobby. I have Hawaiians coming behind the B+, and 3 more strains on their way, so I am not giving up.
