Birthing stubborn cakes early....pics
    #1586189 - 05/28/03 09:03 PM (14 years, 17 hours ago)

So my pet has some cakes that have been colonzing for over 3 weeks. No problems have been encountered so far. Recently the growth has be slowing considerably and that 'locker room' oder was being dectected in the incubation chamber. So my pet decided to birth a few cakes before pins have appeared. They are in a poor mans pod right now. No hydrometer.....only what you see in the pics. My pet was happy that as soon as the cakes were removed from the jars, they had a very very pleasant shroomy smell to them. Nothing gross.

The other jars are still in the incubation chamber waiting for a dunk - cold shock tek to hopefully initiate some pinning.

Could someone give a link to the full dunk / cold shock tek?

Also, what do you peeps think of the early birthing? Will it kill the cakes? Is anything else necessary?

early birthing is usually not recommended. is the middle of the cake colonized? if so then you should be fine. why is there a blob of verm on top? scrap some of that off

ya other than that little clump of verm, the cakes are colonized all the way through and are pretty solid, and smell good.

By early birthing do you mean before you see pins in the jar?

yeah. the cakes dont have any pins. after removing them, a few very faint 'knots' were noticed supposedly where some pins may have been on their way to forming.....?

As long as the cakes are colonized there not early, your fine.

yea by ealrly birthing most peeps beleive that u mean u are birthing before full colonization. Birthing with no pins in the jars is ok. I always birth before i see pins since when i do cakes i dunk and when i am not with cakes i am casin..

hmm.

no spraying apparatus around here yet. hehe. a trip to the store will be ahd very soon.

also. the walls of the pod are clear. does that mean if fruiting starts, the shrooms will grow towards the light?

MAGASH > with the poor pod, were the lids of the fruiting chamber clear or solid with holes cut out and lights put in where the holes were?

ya the shrooms will grow towards light...so most likely you'll get em going every which way...but shouldn't be a problem..just won't have those "picture perfect" shrooms

A tried and true method is waiting for your jars to be 100% colonized, (when everything is white) than wait for another week until birthing, If you get a chance look at Jitsu's grow logs, he has some nifty experiments going on with consolidation
