you havent read mcmans site then if you think it should cost 10$. plus, parts arent the only thing you pay for when you buy a product- youre paying for the time it takes to build them, the price someone places on the information they invest in a product, the costs of doing business- such as the really nice looking website and the banners that you should check out before you start criticizing, advertisements- here at the shroomery which SUPPORT THE SHROOMERY and also in High Times magazine... theres more but im not an mba, but just a lowly jd student.

and no, i dont know mcman, im not him, im not a troll etc etc but am kinda tired of people who dont think about what it takes to makes something and offer it to our community... things like this shape the way we all will cultivate, even if we dont buy one! do you know how valuable some of the information mcman is sharing is worth? have you followed any of the threads about it?! not in grams/ounces or anything, but its worth intellectually? (i dont find value in ounces or pounds, but im sure you can quantify it like that too).

anyways.

Mcman's hydrapod looks very cool indeed! And I am sure it is well worth the money. By the sound of it, it took Mcman quite a while to get the fine tuning down on it. Plus the parts are not cheap, and it is an entire kit that is almost completely automated. I doubt that even if you guys had the stuff to build it, you wouldnt be able to figure out how, or have enough time to get it right.

It sounds well worth the money, but 169 bucks I just cant aford, so will be sticking with the ten gallon aquarium.

Turn your aquarium into a MaxiPod by flipping it on it's side and by turning the lid into a swing door with a duct tape hinge.
It may not be automated but you will find all it requires for air exchanges is simply opening the door twice a day for a few seconds. No more endless fanning trying to get the Co2 up over the sides and a tight fitting swing door also keeps the humidity in.
This idea was given to me by a professional mycologist who had toyed with cubensis years ago. I have personally tried it out and it definately requires less attention than a traditional aquarium/terrarium.
Minimum effort, maximum results...and it's free!

Being in the manufacturing business I completely understand the $170 price. Besides, 'profit' is not a dirty word. You pays your money and you takes your chances. But I digress .. on to my point.
The hydrapod is for cakes. Is it just me or are cakes quickly becoming a thing of the past? I tried 3 cakes 5 months ago and all failed. Started casing rye with coir and have not looked back. What is the fascination with cakes? They do not produce as much, seem to take longer and IMO harder to manage than a casing. Casing is a much better way to go for this hobby, and I imagine most people will move up to this technique.
Maybe we need McMan to develop some awesome casing chambers. Whaddya say McMan?

Cakes are easier to keep sterile...i think that is the facination with cakes...i dunno just my .02 cents

Now that does make sense. My problem was drying the cakes out. They would be bone dry before anything happened and I could not be bothered with all the extra jazz it took to keep them in the perfect environment. But the hyrdrapod obviously solves this problem and would be perfect for cakes. For the hobbyist that is having difficulty this seems to be a fail-safe system for producing fruit. Myself, I'm sticking to what works best for me. It's simple, up to 6 flushes - 4-5 mos without doing much to the casings, I mean the stuff just keeps growing and growing. Regardless...hats off to you McMan for bringing all of your knowledge to the fore and sharing your experiences with everyone. I for one would not be where I am today without your advice and valuable insight and I thank you for that. Keep up the good work.

Anyone heard of the Aqua Farm? Design is pretty much the same as the Hydro Pod......Look under Hydroponic Gardening you can find design specs. But if you prefer just buy a Hydro Pod it seems to really work well for cakes. I enter the contest to win one!

It is, however, VERY effective compared to the standard top-opening 10 gallon aquarium. Not to say that it is better than the hydrapod(which I seriously doubt, with it's humidity/temp control and whatnot), but if you insist on using aquariums to fruit cakes(or even casings, I suppose)then this 'maxi-pod' is the way to go. The only thing I have against aquariums is trying to fan out all the CO2, which is why my first few attempts failed; the 'maxi-pod' solves this problem. Not that it's a new invention or anything... don't really see the point in giving a name to a sideways aquarium...heheh.
