GUNK IN LIQUID CULTURE
    #3963674 - 03/24/05 04:41 AM (19 years, 27 days ago)

Whatever you use, Karo, Dextrose, Honey, Light dry Malt, or any combinations - with water. You often get some caramelization in it - after PC?ing. The simplest way to acheive a clear liquid culture -without any gunk in it- is to simply PC it. Then, filter it through double coffee filters (twice), thus removing any gunk. Then??.PC IT AGAIN. Simple as that.

Liquid cultures are easy as pie. Myself, I like to use light Karo corn syrup. I use a 1qt jar filled 1/3 of the way up with h20. Add a couple pieces of broken glass or a couple marbles in the jar to help break up the tissue later on when swirling. Then simply add 2-3 tablespoons of LIGHT corn syrup (Karo). Stir it up until the solution becomes clear and add you filtered lid of choice. Put a piece of foil over the lid. Pc for 25 minutes @ 15 psi. Done!

what's the deal?

You want a CLEAR liquid culture, so you can see into & through it.

Meaning, while colonizing......if it contam's.... you will see something other than healthy myc in it.

Gunk in it, doesnt look like healthy Myc.

You "inoculate" (agar:bow:ANNO:bow:) a liquid culture into jars, or bags of wbs/rye/grain spawn. It colonizes VERY QUICKLY. Then, spawn that to bulk substrate, incubate/colonize, case & fruit out.

Wow this sounds really cool and I haven't even tried it yet. It seems much easier then making spore syringes! and from what I read this could knock off a week in colonizing time. I gotta try this thanks.
