Tyvek vs Polyfil
    #3927249 - 03/16/05 08:47 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

The search isn't working for me right now, so I will ask here. Which is better suited for use in a double tub setup, Tyvek or polyfil? Would Tyvek allow for proper air exchange?

Thanks!

Polyfil

No

Thanks for the quick response. I am curious as to whether or not you are speaking from experience here. I seem to recall someone using Tyvek in a double tub, but I can't remember who or what the results were.

Think about it, when you're done with your grow u'll want to change out your filters, using tyvek would require silicoing it on, cant wash that, polyfil...just take it out, spray it down, put more in, no exp. required, just common sense

But tyvek is a denser microfilter, but its only Really necessary with jars,

Go to any FABRIC store. Look for stiff white polyster backing material about 1/8th to 3/16ths thick.

It comes in yard wide rolls & is made of polyfil fibers spunbonded togather. A yard cost a few bucks & to can cut it to any size you want, then use tape around the boarder to hold it over any holes.

You can also buy hvt duty spunbonded polyester landscape cloth & do the same thing - with it.

IGnosticAbhorI - I had no intentions of siliconing anything. I recently bought a roll of Tyvek(~$55 for those who wish to know), so I have a whole lot to play with. I planned on cutting the Tyvek to size and using Tyvek tape to attach it to the bin.
As for the denser micro-filter, that is more along the lines of what I am interested in. If I can use Tyvek(better protection) without a noticeable loss in breathability(is that even a word?), then I would like to.

Agar - Thanks for the information. I used to go to the store with my mother all the time, so I can picture the stuff in my head. It's amazing how many things you look at differently once you're into this hobby.

I think what I will do(as I should have figured in the first place), is try all three materials, and see which I am most pleased with.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Yea, it would allow for better filteration and probably less breathabiliy(lol) b/c it's denser...
But hey, if you've got that much to play around with and are really worried about contams., then i say go for it
Good luck

This is a picture of the polycloth, i was talking about.

It is GOOD STUFF. Can be PC'ed, glued, taped & breaths well. Also - will keep out gnats.
