also does pot kill brain cells, and my friends brother was saying how when he started to smoke pot he got a lot higher grades in school when he didnt try any harder,do you find this true.my friend also is like shrooms kill your brain cells like pot but i dont even think pot kills your brain cells based on my friends brothers and many others stories

Pot doesn't kill brain cells; mushrooms don't kill brain cells. Pot does cause short term memory iterference with some people. Good for your friends brother, there are an vastly excessive number of apathetic airhead potheads.

And I'm pretty sure mushrooms don't affect your short time memory. It's not really an issue anyway since you can't use them that often.

I third that! With pot you have the problem of you brains sell "going to sleep" and finding a general demotivation in life, when doing it a lot. As a consequence you dont learn, develope(at a minor age)or follow your tasks in life anymore. In effect that kind of hinders you from getting smarter. But taking now as 100%, you will not go below that chronically. someone not doing pot might get over the 100% a lot faster than you when not doing it.
Although shrooms havent been tested all that deeply in recent times, I dont see any problems with my brain from shrooms. It can , like all drugs(weed included) trigger psychosises which are already somewhere inside you.

Marijuana works by stimulating cannabinoid receptors in your brain - that is, making your brain cells "more awake".

long term effects vary depending on the person. a lot of people (including myself) notice short term memory loss, decreased motivation and decreased attention span. some people will notice very little or nothing at all.

@delta9: Well, I cant cite it I admit. But alsey seconds me, that it doesnt make you more awake. Question: On what go you run a mile faster a blunt or amphetamine? You might think about running it and discuss the pros and the cons on the blunt, but by that time ive overlapped you ten times! - Saying it makes your mind more awake is simply wrong.

i do find weed very thought provoking; perhaps thats what delta9 means by your brain cells being more awake. when i'm stoned i think about all kinds of stuff and i sometimes get artistic urges. kind of like what i get on shrooms but to a much lesser extent. what i can't do when stoned is do any work that requires a lot of concentration.

In my experience mushrooms seriously enhance your memory. Given the cercumstances of a calm trip..you'll remember things you've completely forgotten about, from visual details of a past scene, to deep heavy stuff.
Then it will slip away again.

From what I've read, smoking marijuana TEMPORARILY hinders your short term memory. It doesn't kill any brain cells and if you stop smoking your short term memory comes back. In teenagers, smoking pot has been shown to decrease motivation in some people. I currently go to Cornell University (an ivy and pretty hard school) smoke on a daily basis and am doing just as well as my friends that don't smoke. Actually, last year i only smoked a few times a week and did worse than this year smoking daily. Don't believe anyone that tells you pot makes you dumb. Depends on the person. Me and my friends were talking and decided it's actually possible to do better if you smoke weed. One, because it's a reward to finish all your work and two, because no one wants to say they fucked up cuz of weed, so are more likely to try harder. At least that's how we tend to work.

i agree with delta and s8ordie.. enough with the talk of pot hurting your brain functions...

some people smoke weed and let their minds go to shit...but that is the individual at work, not the drug. personally, i haven't smoked weed for about a month or so now, and i find that my short term memory has been suffering lately, where as when i was smoking i didn't have a problem. i must admit that i've been diagnosed with add and have no prescription treatment though, and the pot has helped me with that.

i've only heard of one lab experiment to really test if pot kills brain cells, and you'll find that the tests were utterly corrupt. basically, to sum it up, they killed monkeys and examined their brains, they then proceeded to suffocate other monkeys with marijuana smoke, then analyze their brains and compare the first monkeys to the second monkeys... turns out the monkeys who were suffocated had some severe brain damage, and people interpreted that to mean that the pot killed the monkeys brain cells. the fact of the matter is that oxygen deprivation kills brain cells, not marijuana. read a little about it here: http://www.jackherer.com/chapter15.html

Actually endocannabinoids participate in retrograde signaling, which in short means a decrease in the production of GABA(an inhibitory neurotransmitter). 

If I'm correct, I believe marijuana affects the transformation of short term memories to long term memory storage.  Which would explain why we often forget what we did while stoned until a buddy reminds us :wink:  Also our brain's ability to recall information is greatly enchanced if you are in the same state of mind you were in during the initial event, this is called state dependent learning.  That's why when you study high, you gotta take the test high :smile:

What about the relationship to the anandemide receptor? Doesn't anandimide control, among other things, the sleep response?

Could bonding to the anandimide receptor explain why some people get sleepy on pot, just like the munchies?

when you smoke for the first time you get excited and your mind is running with thoughts what kind of thought?
that deppends on the person some people keep picturing girls naked some think more creatively some start analyzing some start calculating.....
for the once in a while smoker this never stop to happen
but the people who smoke half a kilo daily just stare into space with a zombie look on there faces all day long :crazy2:
and there brain is basically shut down well maybe not shut down but ?nly running on half speed so they are not thinking about enything so there brain does not create eny new connections, and you know the saying "use it or loose it"
when you dont be thinking about nothin you be deading your brains man! :muppet:
get it it deppend on the person you are and how much you smoke thats why you brother or whoever you said it was got good at school
as for shrooms most definetly youll be gaining some new brain cells but maybe because of that your brain will develop in a way that might not be all that beneficiall to your school,
make a personall judgement as to what kind of person you are.

people will defend weed to the bitter end, myself included. But, AT LEAST FOR ME, excessive pot use burns me out really bad. It gets to where nothing is interesting unless I'm high. This just means moderation is key. As for shrooms, those guys make me smarter, and make life more interesting after the trip has worn off. They're infinitely more valuable than pot IMHO.

a wise person told me this, "if u think pot kills brain cells, it will. but if u dont think they do, they wont" i know it sounds stupid and now that i know for a fact pot doesnt kill brain cells. my friend didnt belive that, now he forgets everything, while i did and i feel fine....

i have noticed memory problems from smoking pot so regularly, but pehaps it isn't a lack of memory but a lack of memory space? being stoned frequently may cause you to subconsciously 'forget' memories which are invaluable to make room for all the newer and seemingly more important thoughts...or maybe my brain is just deteriorating? :wink:

what's more interesting though, is that mushrooms may have also affected my memory. not what i remember, but how i remember it. i have vivid picture memories of things happening one way, when i know myself they didn't happen in that way at all. it may have nothing to do with mushrooms, but it seems to have been the only change in lifestyle which seems to line up. who knows?

YOur source said nothing about the effets of cannabis on the brain. It only says we have cannibinoids in our brain... "Going to sleep" is a simple metaphor, for the fact that your shortterms memory kind of goes away and comes back again, if you ease the toking. just simplification....
