Addicted to Pot?

Am I? i smoke everyday during the hours before i goto bed - sometimes during the day.
The amount i smoke is another story - it may sound ridiculous but i can stretch an 1/8th for 2 weeks+ if its just to myself (low tolerance, i dont get blasted at every session)
Sometimes ill take 'breaks' to prove to myself that im not addicted - like the one i started today - but then after ive proven my point (???) - maybe a week, maybe a month later ill be smoking again.. its like inevidible
last point (yeah my thoughts are all over the place), i like smoking weed, and i dont think anything is wrong with it, which is the kinda reasoning that makes me quit the 'break'
but at the same time i have doubts about it, because im not doing great in school and it has somewhat alienated me from my family
is this the psychological addiction people speak of?
other peoples experiences would be great.. thanks

For a long time I wondered this too.
I liked weed but always felt kinda guilty, or a little worried about my habit.
I tried to quit a few times. Once I went three months clean.
But I always missed it when I quit. Finally, I quit quiting.
Now, a few years later, I find it's much easier to go without it. I just kinda went though it and came out the other side. Back then, I had more stresses than I do now, and I think I just used it to relax and forget/gain perspective my probs. Medical use almost.
Looking back, I think my apprehesion to the pot habit was mostly social convention. The mainstream said it's bad, and maybe I blamed a lot of probs on my pot use. Now I think that's crap.
Sounds like you don't smoke too much pot. An eighth every two weeks isn't a lot. It's good to challenge yourself and try to resist smoking every time you crave it. Just relax, take a deep breath and blow your tension away. It works sometimes. The times it don't, toke up.
Pot is a gift. For a while I wasn't sure if it was from God or the other fellow, now I'm sure it's from God.

As far as I know, marijuana does not replace any neurochemicals or make you in anyway physically dependent, so you can't get addicted. Yes, you can develop a habit like you can with anything. IMO smoking everyday is way too often, but you can disagree. If you want to stop, you can. It might take some will power, but it is very possible, especially compared to other things.

if you feel that it is interfering with your life/work habits, then perhaps you should re-evaluate your current relationship with this wonderful plant.
challenge yourself, show yourself that you can do well in school and get along well with those that care about you, and still smoke pot everyday.
once you've achieved that, and you are happy with where you are, it doesn't matter one bit whether you are addicted or what-not.
personally, i go on and off: when i have bud, i'll be smoking every day. when i'm dry (no money...) i'll smoke maybe once or twice every few days. so its like 2 weeks in a haze, 2 weeks clear-headed etc.
heh...keeps me balanced.
right now, i haven't smoked for 2 and a half weeks...however this is 'cause i don't wanna relapse and get mono again which i'd rather die than have again...(well i'm not so sure about that...)
it feels nice to take a break. school comes a lot easier, i can think better, more clearly defined thoughts ya know...
peace
p.s. dont take breaks to "prove" you're not addicted. it's dumb. you're gonna keep smoking in the end, so why take a break? i dunno...it's just pointless and proves nothing.
peace

Yeah I agree with most of whats been said already. I went through this period in which I blamed a lot of my problems on weed, felt guilty about smoking and wondered if I had a problem. I soon found that this wasn't the case. it was me using weed as the convienant scape goat to make myself feel better about my failures. Dude, you are fine, an eighth every two weeks sounds pretty reasonable to me. I'll go through an eight in two days if I don't pace myself.
A weed habit is like a sweet tooth. It's not going to cause major problems but it isn't exactly physically healthy. You could stop doing it if you really wanted to but why would you want to if it makes you feel good and isn't a significant health risk?
Just remember that its all in your head. Your attitude towards your habit will greatly effect how you feel when you smoke and in general. Just find something that works for you and stop worrying about it. YOU ARE NOT AN ADDICT.

I heard somehere (cant remember) that weed had been classified as a hallucinogen (sp?) and physically addictive. I smoke a lot of weed, on everage probably an 1/8 every 2 days of BC chron. On occasion I will smoke a huge bag with my boys. It seems at times I want weed so bad I cant help but scrape all my bongs and smoking contraptions of resin. Sometimes I want it as bad a cig but sometimes its no prob. Like if I have shit to do I put getting high second and I dont feel I have to have weed now. Sometimes I smoke weed befor I do my shit though (school, work, ect.) and during. Conclusion: Its sure as hell feels like its physically addicting at times but this is after smoking huge amounts of chronic everyday.

Oh I forgot to mention, a former friend of mine smoked weed like u described, small amounts everday, and I think this was casue he was very addicted (mentally or not). He had to have weed everday, he couldnt go for half the day without wanting weed. Since he could not afford it at this rate he resorted to pinching from me and another freind. Then stole money from me, I lived with him and he went into my money stash in my room. Me and the other friend confronted him about this and he denied everything. There was, of course, solid evidence prooving he did this and we all knew it yet he denies it and avoids us to this day.
So if u can stop for a few weeks I think ur ok, but if u find urself stealing from friends or family to get it u are addicted in the worst way. The liar, thief way!

let me start off by sayin' i smoke everyday for the most part, although i am smokin' less these days then i once was, although i am high right now , although i gotta stop sayin' although.
anyways, i think you should talk to your family more, even if you're a little stoned (if you can get over the paranoia, family's pretty cool ... as for school, if you're passing i wouldn't worry, unless you want to do better - in that case, cut back a little on the herbs.
>is this psychological addiction people speak of?
well, i'd say i'm psychologically addicted - but since everyone has their own definition of the term, you gots to decide for yourself. i have taken breaks of 8 months before, and various one month +/- breaks as well. but hey, i like smokin', so i believe i'll keep at it for the time being

Once again Marijuana is not Physically addicting....I have smoked off and on for 30 years. It was never a problem except when it was unavailable. Then I just quit until I could get more. I have gone months without smoking no problem take it or leave it. I guess it could be just an oral fixation, food makes me fat, cigaretts just make me sick.....Nicotine is THE MOST ADDICTING substance known to man! Anyway......I hope you can suffer through those times without it. Don't try to force it.

Making an eigth last two weeks isnt that special. I can make ounces last three months. You have to be smart and not flash your weed around, it will disappear in a hurry.

lets do the math here. Foghorn said he could make an eighth last two weeks. You said you could make an ounce last three months. There are 8/8's in an ounce and 12 weeks in three months. So you are smoking 2/3's an eighth every week. While Foghorn is only smoking 1/2 an eighth every week. Shit Foghorn could make an ounce last 4 months while you would have finished yours in three. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
It's called math.

Right now I can smoke an ounce every six months. I need about half a bowl a day to get high. Any more than that, and I feel fried. I used to toke at nights, now I prefer the morning. By the time I'm down from the high, I'm out of the shower and done breakfast, I feel great for the rest of the day. I'm more productive and happy.
MONO! Mono makes people extremely depressed. I know, I have it. I have had it recur thrice and it fucking sucks. The whole time, I believe my throat will close up while I sleep and I'll die. So, I can barely sleep for a week unless I knock myself out on pills.
Perhaps weed helps? I smoked it this year and this is the first time in four years that it hasnt recurred!!! It always occurs in the fall/winter.
But cutting back on the weed is good. I have started smoking three times a week (fri, sat, tues). Then take month-long breaks right before week-long smokefests ;)

hey, interesting topic. it's not how much you smoke that's a problem, because like everyone says it has a weak (but not nonexistant) physical addiction... so if there are problems they're psychological. because it's ur head we dont know much about it so people make it up the way they want. the _worst_ thing you can do, which someone said, was use it like medecine or think u need it... that's dangerous . thats not the point of mj so if ur thinkin like that its time to stop..
u were saying that u feel a negative impact on your social life.. since it isnt very harmful physically thats the major way weed can get at u. watch out, its not easy to tell if smoking is harming u when its as subtle as weed but it is very easy to ignore and pretend u dont care.
