a very interesting site dedicated to succulents. I am building a greene house for a kid that has a large collection of these things. He gave me a tour of his collection and tought me a lot. he showed me a species of Amorphophallus
wich grows from a underground tube a three foot shoot that produses a flower the size of my dog wich smells like my dog was hit by a car and rotted for a month in the sun. http://biology.fullerton.edu/facilities/greenhouse/amorphophallus/#tiffy_in_flower.html

ok its a tuber most of the year, the shoot gets sent up and forms large leaves wich dieback as it begings to flower, then it flowers and lasts a week or two. The flower has male and female sex organs, but do to the way it works they mature at different times. So for seed you need more then one tuber. I was fortunate to get a first hand look at this crazy plant in this kids basement.

it does set seed. you just need a buch of plants to get them to polinate do to the short period and th differnt timings of maturity.
My friend picked his up for 30 dollars. it is only above ground a couple months of the year, and you can store the tuber in a papper bag durings its dormant period.

im off to bed i need to get up in 5 hours.

I'd recommend starting off with Adenium obesum (desert rose). Fairly common and inexpensive and carefree. Enjoy!

yes Adenium obesum, or a variety of that.

or Jatropha ( Euphorbiaceae ) a little easier too find that Adenium.

not really the same thing, but the best and easiest house plant, Zamiacaulcas ( Araceae ),
ZZ plant, has large underground tuber,
and can the only on of these that you can find at home depot, although they usually look like shit, but, if one leaf " fell in your pocket" you could start a plant easily.
