Growing DMT plants.
    #3635524 - 01/16/05 05:57 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Currently.....
I have Acacia Maidenii seeds , Mimosa Hostilis, and Mimosa scabrella seeds.

I have tried to start both A.Maidenii seeds and M.Hostilis seeds , and so far have only sprouted the maidenii.

One possible reason might be the VERY cold temps in my apartment.
(most sprouts are now in a toasty closet  )

Also, I have noticed , that you cant let hostilis seeds soak in paper towel to long.....because they will rot.

I planted some M.hostilis seeds that looked pretty swollen,(weeks ago) and they have yet to sprout.(I am going to try a better soil mix, a warmer temp and a fat dose of Superthrive B1...and more moisture....but I am afraid of really soaking the mix because of the rotting I saw ouccur in the paper towel.

Any other ideas???(I have much less hostilis then maidenii, and I dont want to waste them)

Also, whats the word on scabrella?, I know about the potency, but what about the growth??

I plan to grow bundle flower outdoors this year, as well as maidenii.

Whille growing hostilis and vidiris indoors, and maybe scabrella.

Hostilis is another plant I considered a waste of time in my area, until recently, when I saw that others have grown it. (I dont know if it could live over the winter though??........I know the maidenii and the bundle flower plants will, and the smaller ones will be moved indoors anyway.

What do you think??

I would LOVE to grow all of these year round, outdoors, however even here in zone 9 , the winter might be to cold(I dont know)

Whats your expericnce growing these plants?
As I said , my "team" will be made up of, Acacia Maidenii, Mimosa Hostilis, P.vidiris, and Bundle Flower(I cant remember the tech name?, well I cant spell it anyway  )

You said VERY cold temps...I think thats prolly why they are rotting b4 germinating.

In Australia, acacia's usually grow after extensive bushfires. One method that has been suggested is this, collect your bong water and apply it to the acacia seeds. This will break their "dormancy" if that's what you call it. There is some information at the following link.

http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000135#000000

Oh and btw, it's Desmanthus illinoisensis.

I've had much success with A. maidenii. Very easy to grow and care for. Fairly fast growers too.

My D. illinoisensis gave me problems though. They were easy to greminate; although the germ rate was sparse. They did quite well until it started to cool off. Then they dropped all their leaves and I believe they are dead. I hope *fingers crossed* that they are just dormant for the winter. Who knows?

Never grown M. Hostilis, although I would love to have an endless supply growing in the yard...

Possible, but even in warmer temps, the wetter seeds rotted.

The worst part is that I have 6 mimosa seeds that I THOUGHT were going to sprout planted in an egg carton...I am going to try and fish the seeds out and give them a better mix, before I try to start more seeds.

Keep them on a clean wet rag in a plastic container on top of your computer.

It will receive everything it needs (provided you leave your computer on enough hours a day).

I've never had problems germinating M. hostilis. Actually, I don't think I've ever NOT had a seed sprout using this method.

you have to soak the mimosa hostilis into boiling water for 20 minutes or so to break the dormancy...

Odd, I've never read or been told to do that.

Beats me.

Some of my seeds were given the boiling treatment( if not all)

However, then after being in the paper towel to long, they rotted.

Check out this link , it's a post I made a while ago where I described a method for germinating Mimosa seeds with great succes. Hope it helps. I believe you can also use that method to germinate Desmantus Illinoensis seeds.

As a matter of fact, all those seeds need scarification to sprout properly. I would not boil them for 20 minutes. What Felix means is you get water boiling, take it off the heat and put the seeds in for 20 minutes or even longer as it cools. You can even leave them soak overnight. I sometimes leave them in the water until they swell or sprout. M. scrabrella is the only one of the batch I got decent germination without scarification but it will probably do better with.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

thanks stoney for getting it straight!
i would recommend germinating on soil rather than on a paper towel, for some reason they seem to do better...
funkey's post is the one for MH germination!
