Slow growth---yes, another question about slow growth!

Just a quick one, I soaked (24 hrs) and simmered rye (45 min), then inoculated and incubated at 85 F for the past week. The mycelium is growing but at a slower rate than on my first try, when the jars had too much water in them (and got all contamed). Does the mycelium take a little longer to colonize when there's less water? Should I have added more water before pressure cooking? Maybe I'm just being impatient.

Be patient. It sounds like you did everything correctly so the water content should be fine. The speed will pick up as the mycelia gets established. As you already found out, too much water is a bad thing.

The strain is Amazonian. I really don't know much about strains, as long as I get some shrooms I'll be happy! I'm just hoping that there will be enough moisture to last the entire grow cycle. It would be a real pain to get so close to fiishing and then have to restart because the mycelium is dying due to a lack of water. On the other hand, too much water and you definitely won't get anything, just contams. I suppose that the shrooms will be getting some additional water when I case, as I'll be misting the casing layer daily.
