Ah Ah Ah Ah stayin alive, stayin alive
    #3879043 - 03/06/05 06:30 PM (19 years, 26 days ago)

I managed to keep a whole casing alive and flushing for 3 1/2 months so far by injecting it with a slurry of sterilized malt agar extract and rye. I water it and change the light on a rotating schedule. The type is b+

When the flushes get weak, or I get alot of aborts, I inject 2 CCs of my slurry in the 4 corners and in the center of the casing. The casing is getting hard though, so I started to add straws of hay to the casing. It is slowly taking over the hay and building. Temp is 78 and is varied +/- 5 degrees. The size is 12 in by 12 in
number of flushes to date is 18. The number of shrooms vary from 5 to 13 per flush. Not counting aborts. I think I am going to name it.

That's killer.

Based on your experience, what do you think of this take on the same basic idea?

Also, I think you should put up a POLL to choose the name.
Should there be a poll to choose Moe's "kid's" name?
You may choose only one

That's obviously a very virile colony you have there. I hope you saved some early mycelium from it for inoculum - if you can start another casing after this one dies out, you might have very easy shrooming for many years to come.

Wow. I thought about doing something like that except I was thinking about using honey, but malt extract would be better nutritionally because of protein content.

I was thinking about adding undiluted honey in one hole, and water in another hole.

18 flushes and 3.5 months counts as a "forevercake" to me.

About how many dry grams do you think you have gotten from it so far?

I would say an average of 162 mushrooms from the cake.

I have no words for such a feat...

God frickin damn, nice job man, keep it alive!
