cultivation queeeriessss

my stems have developed a lot of fluffy mycelium primarily at the base, i read somewhere that mycelium on the caps is a sign of low humidity, is the same true if on the stems, and not all of the stems have this growing on them...plus i use perlite humid. any suggestion on how to increase humidity levels in there..its sealed well and water levels are consistent..

It sounds like your cakes don't have enough water, perhaps. Did you case them with vermiculite?

:mushroom2: #1- the mushrooms grow down because that's where the light source seems to be coming from.  I've noticed this when growing from cakes on perilite... they just seem to go everywhere.  As far as the thickness, it may just be the strain you're using.  I'm not sure that there is a way to thicken them up.

#2- The ones that haven't grown for a couple of weeks are aborts.  I'd say it's time to harvest, dunk, and place the cakes back in the terrarium.  The aborts are still useable.

Your cakes are made of brown rice flour and vermiculite, correct? Well, when you birth them (put them in the fruiting terrarium)...it's a good idea to put a layer of moist vermiculite on the bottom and the top of your cake to retain moisture for your soon-to-be mushrooms. Some people prefer to roll the whole cake in moist vermiculite when it's fully colonized.

Dunking is submerging your cakes in water overnight to rehydrate them. You can put them in the fridge/freezer to "cold shock" them, which lets the cakes know that it's time to produce fruits (mushrooms).

yes those were the ingredients for my vermiculite, i did not case them though, i will after dunking them now...thank you again, this site really is filled with the most helpful and friendly people ;p

alright how about this;p
if i were to initially dry a fresh mushroom under a fan for a day or two, then put it in an electric oven at a very low temp for a few hours, would a minimal loss of potency be achieved? i read the faq and it suggested the possibility of said technique, but i didnt see any clear indication of potency loss, i know heat damages psilocybin but i didnt see at what temp such damage begins to occur.
or is it just sooo much better to use a desiccant that i should overdraw my bank account anyway and spend the ten bucks?

Well, I don't endorse breaking the law, but desiccant is a very valuable thing to have. The good thing about it is that it's rechargable, so you won't need to go buy a new pack every time you have a new flush of mushrooms.

You can fan dry them quite effectively, too. I would be pretty wary of putting them near an oven though. Like you said, heat breaks down psilocybin fairly quickly.

Hey bro, here is a great way to dry. Buy a noddle strainer, at target for like $2 put all your mushies in there and set the strainer ontop of your computer monitor. You should have a bunch of heat vents ontop of your monitor that are a PERFECT temp for drying. I dried 21 grams of mushies in about 3 days doing this.

That fuzzy mycelial growth on the stems is due to high humidity, not low. It is nothing to worry about and in fact is an indication that the humidity is high enough for cakes to thrive.
