an ode to Hunter Thompson
    #3809784 -

just my thoughts... if you've read his material or seen him speak..

don't feel sad...

He chose to take his own life.. and damnit... if he wasn't a man that you couldn't trust to make his own decisions.

Everyone dies.... sometimes we chose it to happen.. somtimes we sit back and let nature take us away.

HST... He taught us to open our eyes and realize...

THIS IS IT

This is is all and everything we have. Don't be ashamed of death. Don't be ashamed of life. Live it.... look around, and become a part of what you see. Don't take it for granted.

I, for one, am not saddened to see him go. He had experienced a long, hardcore life... and he chose to end it. I didn't read a lot of what he had wrote... but from interviews with him, the movie, and from what I read from Tom Wolfe... the man knew enough about life where I trust him enough to make his own decisions. He showed us what he had to show us... he served his purpose and he decided that it was time to move on...

All he did was purchase his ticket to the afterparty once he found out the where it was...

HST was the perfect example of the impact *** I *** wish I could have had on SOCIETY... an ambiguous figure at best... someone who you really couldn't put a finger on what exactly he did for the world, but someone who you knew... without ever having been born... well.. this world wouldn't be -quite- what it is now.

May he rest in peace wheverever he is... thanks hunter for helping slowly awaken the world... for showing us that being INVOLVED... is the best thing that a human can ever do...

What an amazing man. I'd say he lived a full life. I can't get down on him for taking his own life, he obviously had his reasons. Rest in peace, Hunter.

to each their own...

I dunno... you have someone like Kurt Cobain kill themself at 27... and you're saddened because you know they didn't get a chance to experience all of what life had to offer

But I'm PRO_Euthanasia....

If you're 70ish and you feel your time as come...

Aye.  I haven't read much of his work, nor seen him speak...  But I did get the feeling that he wouldn't want us to mourn, but rather celebrate his death.  He was certainly a great man, and touched many lives...  A great, noble, and powerful thing indeed.  If he felt it was his time to go, well, he certainly was not one who missed the show.  On the contrary, he shaped, directed, and played a part in it.  His accomplishments will be left with us.

I agree, as long as the person making that decision is in a sane enough mindstate to make it a real Choice, to end a life that will not get better then it is or was, it should be a right to do so.

May there be drugs galore in heaven HST. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Yes, he will be missed indeed. I loved his writings. Always irreverent and asking the questions that needed to be asked. R.I.P Dr. Gonzo....

I am a fan of his writing and I was a little saddened to hear this morning that he left this world, especially in the way that he chose. I guess it's fitting though that he went out with a bang.

No matter what happens I am going to try my hardest to make it to his memorial service.....I am truly saddened by the death of this man. The Last True American if you ask me...This is the guy I dressed up as for halloween 5 years in a row, This is the man who encouraged my writing and in depth personal discovery. May sound crazy but this man was a True Legend And Personal Hero to me..

RIP
