Not really. Suppose though, when they finally do find writings from Hunter which he intended to keep hidden so long. There must be some, no one gets to 67 and then kills themself without putting some real thought and planning behind it. Where's that twist, that last laugh that a personality like Hunter's could enjoy so much?
How will he explain being so very selfish.
You see I think it was selfish for someone like him to kill himself.
So many work and struggle through their hole lives-in vain- in hope of gaining a life as free as his. He could of just as easily packed a bag and flew to Peru. Sat on the beach and drank a Corona. Shoot a cheap film that everyone would be inclined to see.
And how much of the relibious spirit, have walked behind him, carried the same burden, to be able to look the man in the eye and say "I lived my way and am better for it." A symbol of what we can be, if we can just be smooth headed a bit, and run that fine line between all that binds. What sort of legacy did he leave? I think there's a few more letters left.
I don't know that the life of a writer is an admirable as its so often placed. So much of it, like any art, must be born from a time of suffering. I feel sorry for Hunter. He lived in a chaotic world that probably never settled down completely. He had options though, and one he could have changed without destroying so much.
he would have been off'ed long ago if that were the case. it's not like he was saying anything lately that someone else hasn't currently said better. as much as I loved his work and influence, he stagnated the last years of his life (mostly to health I recognize) but yeah. there are far more important political martyrs in the scope of things in the gov's eyes these days than HST was. yes, I realize you said "someone" but yeah not many other organizations had the motive or potential to "off" him. anyway, he just went out on his own terms. he gave us a wealth of information and woke up many people. I'd rather him have gone out relatively on top then have become a hack relying on his previous merits while masking his current shitness. not saying this would have been true but yeah...he mostly lost his edge (and mind - even moreso) in his later years.
