nice plants man!
are you gonna graft the loph baby? it's pretty easy to graft seedlings...
but i'm afraid your supposed heimia is misidentified! for me it looks like a solanaceous plant... some kind of nicotiana, rustica perhaps?

Looking good, kada. I have to agree that is not a hiemia in the first photo. It's healthy, whatever it is. Heimias have very thin leaves. Your lopho looks ok, they grow like that sometimes.

well my real passion is reptiles/amphibians....so most of my ethnos turn into vivarium plants.  and i must say, desmanthus, rivea, coleus make FINE vivarium plants!  not that any plant is bad

so its not a heimia :frown:  well fuck me.  thats what they were sold to me as.  if i get pics of whatever parts is it gonna be possible to get an id?  im guess once it flowers it will become that much more obvious.  damnit :frown:  ANY help as to specie or genus woudl be supoib!  please

gonna graft some, but all those i am going ot grow in dirt.  i plan on keepign these, if nothing else, my entire life.  family heirloom type thang.

Wonderful plants kada, really loving em. Looks like you do the same for them .

As felix suggested your plant strongly reminds of a nicotiana, rustica to be exact. If your flowers are large and yellow, then rustica it is. If does happen to be rustica, be careful handling those leaves! Nicotine can absorb through the skin and get you really sick.

once it gets further in flowering ill be sure to post pics!  try and get an id.  i try and take good care of all my plants, but i really baby'd this bugger.  almost dies 2 times at the beggining.  oh well.  ive been known to baby chickweed before when i didnt knwo what it was.

if it is nicotiana i am definatly moving it out of the cage.  the lizards aint vegitarians but teh bugs tehy eat are  :crazy2:

here is a pic from a while back of the seedlings jsut starting.

here is a current pic of the seeds.  i can get better shots with the mircroscope if ened be....i jsut need to pick it up from my dads place.

On the contrary, Nicotiana is virtually pest free. Nicotine being a pretty shocking insecticide and Rustica is in no shortage of nicotine. I would, however, consider moving it out of the way of your reptile friends lest they tread on it. Could be a very toxic situation :alert:

Here's another thing that could help you with the ID. What do the seeds look like? Are they tiny or large? Brown or otherwise? Round, oval, etc?

Edit: Here's a few pictures of N. Rustica flowers just for your own personal reference:

Well, we can rule out Rustica. Rustica has extremely tiny itsby bitsy seeds. They are also round. I'm still thinking it's some kind of Nicotiana. This is quite interesting. I'll be looking around for some seed photos. I'll be sure to report back with more info.

Good deal, I didn't catch the microscope part. Rustica seeds are about half the size of poppy seeds. If they are around this size I would say, you got rustica(or at least some kind of Nicotiana).

here is a comp wit a dime and poppy seeds.

i meant i can get pictures fo them under the microscope some time next week...jsut gotta pick it up.  dotn know if that close is needed for seed id...im pretty ignorant to nicotiana...and heimia

the way those buds look in the links you gave sure look like how these are forming...looks quite possible.

Definitely Nicotiana . The seeds tell the tale. Just as a side note, it's very beautiful looking. I have found them to be a little bit of a pain to take care of, and can be very moody about what it wants(moody = it dying ). But they look so perfectly green and healthy!

The flower color will be the final determining factor in the species ID. And from what I see in your pics and what I've seen in my own garden, I would say yours is very close(or rather in the process of) to flowering. Not fragrant like a few other Nicotiana's, but very nice to look at.
