That's cool sometimes....but not all of the time. Tripping is about much more than that. Tripping is all about experiencing new things, and while it's good to trip in darkness from time to time, I think it's a waste to do that all the time. There is so much to experience; daytime, the outdoors, sun, storms, music, concerts, ect.... Some of my most important lessons and most mind-blowing experiences occured in situations other than total darkness and relative silence.

I would say it depends on your setting.

Silence is hard to find these days. If you have loud obnoxious neighbors or something, what you will experience will not be silence... some neighborhoods can sound very intimidating

If you've got access to nice silence I would highly recommend this as your mind gets a blank slate onto which it can create quite a production

I believe in the existance of a trip, that can lead to enlightment.
I am searching for it, cos thats the only way i can reach my ultimate trip.COMPLETE FREEDOM

I know there is a way to control the seretonin levels in our brain.
I know that we don't need any moodlifters or mind-altering substances when we reach this type of knowledge.

We can bring ourselves to ecstasy...It's just a matter of using emotions as tools and not being attached to them

Interesting....I have many trips where I literally know everything, see everything, experience everything, and become everything....I tap into the infinity, and ultimate knowledge, I reach enlightenment....but I only manage to bring a little bit back each time, and then try to integrate it. I'm searching for a way to keep this knowledge. "We can bring ourselves to ecstasy...It's just a matter of using emotions as tools and not being attached to them" Definately.....there have to be ways to control our conciousness without drugs, some monks can do this from what i've heard.  :tongue2:

Thats for shure my friend!

I had a strange metaphysical experience a few years before, that showed me the enlightment path.....

I discovered that when the ultimate essence of substances was revealed,  the importance and value of the substance itself was meaningless...

The purpose of the substances are to show you somethin that is happening without them anyway. The importance is in what the substances reveal, they reveal truths....truths exist, no matter if you are high or not.

The true spiritual states of mind are achived without drugs, by will and strategy, the only thing that we have to do ,is to make the verification of every  aspect of the intoxicated state into everyday reality.

As soon as we transfer all the details from the one world to the other, we convince ourselves of the unity of levels of reality.

That's when all the fun begins...intoxicate reality!!!  :sun:

Just out curiosity, I see so many people on here talking about the enlightenment and changes in perception that shrooms bring them.

Do any of you know anyone who has long since stopped using shrooms (10+ years) and still thinks they are enlightened, or that any change of perception still lingers on?

The claims I hear are interesting, but I can't help think it's all a game, and that the ones who believe they are enlightened are sheep following their trips, like certain religious devotees follow their faith.

It all depends on how powerful the trips are.....while the afterglow fades after a while, you never completely forget...you're changed for life to some degree. It's defintely not a game though....there ARE mindgames during tripping, but there is truth behind them.....this enlightment is the absence of all games, what happens after this experience varies from person to person. Many become more spiritual, which to some may seem sheeplike....but if you've come face to face with both pure good and pure evil, gone to both heaven and hell, you're going to do what it takes to stay away from hell, and you're going to feel love and compassion for your fellow man. The way I see it, too many people don't take tripping seriously enough...they assume it's just a drug induced mindgame/fantasy, when it is in fact quite real. As far as following faith, that is quite correct, tripping has given me lots of faith. Some people have no faith, and are adrift....and that's fine to me, sure they may regret it when they die, but that's their trip. To each his/her own.......all of us know the pain and suffering that intolerance and attempting force ones belief systems on others causes all to well, I would like this to end, so I let people believe what they want. This is what life is all about, a journey to discover who we are, where we are, and why we are. We are all one, but in this life/world we experience everything individually.....so, as I already said, to each his/her own.  :tongue2: :peace:

I wish ya luck man....i'm in the same position as well, I have 7gs and no idea how much I want to take (the most i've taken is 3.5 of really, really potent shrooms) these are quite potent, and i've been wanting to see what higher doses of shrooms are like, i'm well versed in high doses of LSD, DPT, as well as 5 Me0-DMT and 1 high dose of
2C-E, so i'm very curious about high mushroom doses. I seem to very sensitive to them as well, which is one reason that I haven't taken the plunge before this.......I was thinking about 7gs....but i'll probably wind up sharing some with a friend and eat 5-5.25gs, judging from my past experiences,  this will take me where I need to go.  :tongue2: Happy Trails!  :shroomer: :tripping:  :goodluck:

Did it ever occur to you that when you say it's a "religious" experience and you talk about enlightenment, you are basically comparing your trips to a Buddhist's journey along the Middle Way, even though Buddhism lists intoxication as one of the five sins?

I have a hard time believing that you aren't injecting your own preconceptions into what you are experiencing because you all talk about religious ideas that are directly ripped off from religions that don't tolerate intoxication.

Granted, some of you talk about the shamans and tribal faiths, but you still talk about heaven and hell with a Christian spin.

I could understand feeling closer to Nature, but I seriously think some of you are mixed up with this "enlightenment" idea.

Ok. first off your going to have to step away from the limiting definitions of *religious* and *enlightenment*...

So, lets

define religious experience as; An experience of many forms which swiftly instills unshakeable faith in someone.

and enlightment as; being the best you can be. Universal understanding, and acceptance. Reaching and completing the final lesson.

On topic with the forum - when i was 15 i ate 7g alone in silent darkenss and i was torn to pieces. Really messed me up. Without a doubt this was a fullout religious experience and i knew that everything i was was incorrect and that i had to be more and pursue what i saw. you know... that feeling you get, that you just cant shake, money or sex or food or isolation wont make it away - that deepdown gut wrenching knowledge that you KNOW you must - even if you dont fully understand it..

K, so that was my religious experience... It messed me up socially and mentally. I obviously wasnt prepared to integrate and adapt at that stage in my life - understandably... i could hardly handle highschool and a part time job - let alone the development of a spiritual practice..

Ok - so the point? A good while has past, close to 5 years... And ive had many truly unreal experiences - each redefining the extent that i see religious as being possible. Now im finally at a point of responsibility and coming to understanding and trying - really trying... to develop that spiritual practice. This reflect in my lifestyle habits in EVERY way.

In no way do i feel i am enlightened, dispite what less aware friends might think - i know i am many tiers down the ladder - and i know that taking mushrooms wont *get me there*. However, i do know that they aid me...

Think about religious history - ALL major religions are based on similar basic principles. These are innate truths. THE DHARMA. of course every culture perceives and worships differently... but most are just adapted versions of one another.

What spawned religion? - in the Ancient tribal cultures - majik plants. In the west, and Europe... acts of faith/maricles brought about misconstrued perversions of the reality of *more*... In the east - ... well im sure you know the story of buddhism... Anyways, which is more valid - especially if it DOES SOMETHING for the person in question. If SOMETHING can bring understanding and pursuit and allow questions to manifest.. and empowerment and awareness to someone. What is the difference. Do you think Buddah would kick someone and say "you are not enlightened - you did not do it my way." - no, that is not understanding i think it would be more like "well done, you've devouted your life to a similar righteous path as mine" (of course this differs for each person in question.

Something that rings in my ears ... there was a strict practicer of buddhism for over 20 years from monastic life... who showed interest towards Ayahuasca because his meditations never got him where he wanted... Balance, understanding, reflection... But not enhanced awareness.

As i said... im in the process of finding my spiritual method, and plants and chemicals... for me, i think will always be apart, they were certainly my start, and my lifestyle... but i think many would consider me a spiritual person or an intellect before they considered me a drug user. Im studying buddhism, and have considered going ascetic in India for a 4 year pilgrimage... and am still considering. At this point... its important to me to get my spiritual roots laid before continuing education or career or any of that. Faith comes first... And obviosly it concerns me that buddhism can consider intoxication as a sin. I think the right boddhisvata may be understanding of *different paths* within His alley - to the same destination. its tough tho... Just thinking about what Rick Strassmans Buddhist community said to him about his DMT research... Its all individual... I DONT think id be a sinner, or any less devout to practice buddhist mindfullness and plant medicine.. however, i dont exactly wish to find myself wrong in the afterlife...

But its one of those intutive things... I know, i know i know - i have faith in myself and the choices i make to get where ill get

Something else to consider; is that at the foundation of these religions/belief structures ... was life. There wasnt anything more, Just - provide/survive/worship/progress. There were not the higher powers we know as *Consumption* *money* *government* *tv* *whateverwhateverwhatever* ... It even comes down to the fact that we have radio waves and cell phones and microwave's confusing our intuitional *godsenses*.... Its not so easy to make contact, or have a true religous experience now-a-days in industrialized culture... and if a religious experience does occur very often it is *sold short* by being classified and interpreted through a preset and well established religious concept.

The psychedelic experience of direct faith and knowledge attainment... and the formulation of your own ideas which are EXACTLY the same as the fundamental dharma... and idea's of all religion is something that shouldnt be looked over.

After all that. Ill eat my words -

"I seriously think some of you are mixed up with this "enlightenment" idea. "

Me too. I think alot of people think they are enlightened because they realize that enlightenment exists. Sorry kids - you gotta another thing commin to ya....

ego.

Your reponse was more thoughtful, cogent and detailed than I was expecting from anyone. I thought I would have to put on the boxing glove and defend myself from charges that I had no idea what I was talking about.

You are right that there can be some mixup with terms like "religious" and "enlightenment." However, I can't help but think that most trippers who describe their trips in such ways are at least somewhat aware specifically of the Buddhist implications those thoughts have.

The rest of this post is not directed right at you, headset.

The reason I'm skeptical about people claiming to have these experiences that lead to greater understanding is that I think they are motivated by the Buddhist idea that they are learning some higher truth. And when I say Buddhist idea, I specifically mean that, not just that their idea coincidentally is similar to the Buddhist idea.

However, to compare your trips to what monks achieve through meditation seems somewhat errant to me. Meditation takes an ability to control the mind. Buddhism uses that self-control to lead to detachment from wrong desires and the senses. If you can only get these messages by getting messed up on shrooms, then what are you really accomplishing? If you do not have the same control over your mind and cannot use it in a special way when you're sober, have you really accomplished what the monks are accomplishing?

I think it is important that we distinguish the psychedelic experience from the Buddhist experience of enlightenment. It is interesting to read on these forums how some people truly believe that the experiences are both one and the same, but that is far from being true. Although the term ego loss is often spoken of during a trip, is it truly ego loss that is inline of Buddhist definitions? The ego loss described by some posters here is a temporary situation that often does not carry over into daily life after the psychedelics wear off. True enlightenment shatters the ego to pieces, once and for all. There is nothing left of the ego afterwards. This can not be accomplished by the mere ingestion of a drug. It takes years of meditation and many years of instruction from an accomplished master.
I think that many believe that they have experienced what they thought was enlightenment but what they likely experienced was just a glimpse of what enlightenment is. As the drug wears off and the afterglow diminishes, there isn't much enlightenment left over. In frustration it is easy to think that the experience can be repeated and that is how addictions can start.
If enlightenment was as simple as eating some mushrooms, I think the Buddhist masters of meditation would have reccomended it over spending years as a hermit. Yet they make no mention of it in their teachings.

when i was 16 i ate 7 grams of mushrooms with my best friend, every trip ive had wit somone has been him, no matter the setting, tripping is great as long as i got my trippin buddy. we had done a few 3.5 gram doses, and a few 4-5 gram doese. but 7 grams was ridiculous. we dosed thm at sunset, was had fasted the full day before the trip as we always do. we wrapped up in blankest and walked outside, we sat on the hill watching the sun set, there were about 12 bats flying above the pond below us. about 20 minutes after we had eaten them the sky started getting brighter and darker , as if somone had it on a dimmer switch. at that point i knew it was going to be a ride, we waited another 10 minutes before going inside, already by then the body load had set in i was having trouble walking. we decided to go upstairs and listen to some music, we got half way up the stairs and sat down, i could feel the mushrooms hitting my harderthan ever, my vision was flooded with wierd aztek like pattersn, i could barely focus my eyes before my world would melt around me. i had the thoughts that "wait..did i do too much?" i thought about my family , i thought i was gone forever, but i slowly got the thought into my head that it was ok, the mushrooms would never hurt me. i thought about my friend, he was in the same sitution i was, but then i explained to him exactly what made me better and he was fine. at this time we were peaking. he was so deep into the mushrooms trance he was lookin at me saying " oh man im so drunk" having some crazy mind -loop.(note: atthis time i am having trouble standing, about peaking) so i get up and do the standard fireman drag and drag him into his roomand get him into a chair, he keeps thanking me, saying he saved his life, he got on his keyboard and presed random buttons for awhile, i turned off the lights, as soo nas darkness set in my world was blown apart, i could mever explain what i saw. we sat in the darkness all night into the wee hours of the morning, to this day im still trying to figure out the entire experience, and slowly the peices fall into place. even though the trip was so intense because at the time i wasent ready, i never could have imagined what i saw. but it was not a 'bad trip'.there were its parts that were some-what scary, but it was just more mind blowing than anything.after years of mind preperation i could do it again, as long as i would have my friend i know i could stay calm. im a fan of the complete darkness, with or without music. its crazy how mushrooms can turn nothing into something incredible.

the ego death is like insane. oh man all this talkin has got me all excited lol

Just while we're talking about Buddhism... thought I'd comment.

I'm a Buddhist. I have used marijuana and mushrooms, among other things. I feel in no way like I have betrayed my religion(even though I wouldn't even call it a religion... more like a way of existing). The Buddha said 'refrain from use of harmful intoxicants'. If one believes that these plants/chemicals can be used in a way conducive to spiritual/mental/positive growth, than one is not violating any osrt of laws. More importantly, however, Buddha said 'don't take my word for it. find out for yourself.' Although I paraphrase, he meant that everyone's way is intrinsically different, but running parallel.

Alan Watts was once asked in a question and answer after a lecture 'What is the difference between Buddhist enlightenment and enlightenment achieved through psychedelics?' He paused for a moment, chuckled, and said 'Well... you can walk to New York, or you can fly...'
Right on!

Jumped in a river, what did I see?
Black eyed angels swimming with me
Moon full of stars and astral cars, all the figures I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and all my futures
We went to heaven in a little rowboat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt
