Flash - actionscript help

Anyone familiar with actionscript/flash?

I'm having trouble getting my swf file to recognize global variables. Anyone out there think they can help me out?

on frame one (the frame itself) I have the declaraton

_global.menu1click = "0"
_global.menu2click = "0"

later on in the timeline I change one of the variables

menu1click = "1"

Then even later on in the timeline when I test the value of "menu1click".. its back to 0. WTF? I've tried referring to the menu1click as both "_global.menu1click" and "menu1click" when setting and testing it... but either way... it doesn't remember me setting the global variable for some reason.

do you ever loop back to the first frame?
Also, doesn't flash require a semicolon at the end of the line?
I haven't written any in a while, so i guess i could be wrong.. what about the quotations? I don't think they're used when you mean for it to be a numerical variable.

Actually I found my problem. I'm used to VB where testing conditionals with if (x=y).. notice the SINGLE "=" symbol. I forgot in Actionscript that in order to tets you need "=="... a double equal sign.. similar to C... or else I'm just SETTING the conditional to true automatically... :wink: oops
