Hello, well I'm new to this whole shroom growing thing. I've read alot about it and finally decided to try it. I have everything i need. The one question that I have is if it is allright to use Miracle-Gro brand vermiculite, it says it has plant food in it and I was just wondering if this would be allright. Thanks for any help. Also an opinion on whether a humidifier or perlite would be a better humidity source. thanks

hey Mon,

Its good to see ya give this a try. I would reomend that you use plain vermiculite. The plant food in it might attrack contams, and trust me ya don't want that.

If this your first time i would recomend perlite. check out hawks tank it will give ya ideas.

Miracle grow does no good, and no real noticable bad to mycelium. It through off pH though so be careful. I would just stick the verm in a strainer w/ small holes and rinse the verm off before using it, to get the miracle grow off.

Ok, "dude",. here you go. FUNGUS and PLANTS are 2 different things. They are almost like , if i was to compare you to a plant. But the most important thing to remember is that: IN NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, ARE M-U-S-H-R-O-O-M-S THE SAME AS PLANTS. There fore, all of the suppliments and fertilizers that you use for plants are useless when trying to cultivate MUSHROOMS.
