i guess this is just luck, but just now i was digging through my garrage when i found an old clay plant pot. i realized that this was thepot i used for a (what i thought to be) useless experement (i was trying my best to mimic mother nature). i put 2 chunks of PF cake inside the pot and covered it with Miracle-Gro potting mix (the reason i did this little experement was because that the cake had signs of green contam.) i set the pot in my garage, and completely forgot abot the damned thing for at least 3 months or so. anyhoo, i found it just a minuite ago, and just out of curiosity, i dug inside and pulled out a big chunk of dirt. i thought that the potting soil dried into a clump, so i brushed at it. Much to my delight, a bright spot of mycillium shown through! being a little more curious, i broke a chunk of the sie of the "dirt clod" and found that the mycillium loves that dirt! the fungus is extreamely healthy and a bright white. also, the rizomorphs are sort of "reaching" through the dirt. (sp?) what got to me was that not only did it survive, but it is doing better than all of my other cakes! i am nervous and unsure of what to do as of this moment. ANY HELP WHATSOEVER WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!!! - thanks-

Try Miracle grow moisture control. It's a combo of dirt, peat moss and coco fibers. Mycellium loves this stuff too.... I put about 1part vermiculite to 2 parts miracle grow.

hey, i was up late last night and rushed through that post. (guess you could see by the sloppiness of it. so im gonna repost it) anyway, it was just as much as a surprise for me! all i did was make a PF cake, and let it start colonizing. i was about to throw the sucker out once i found out that it had some green mold on the top part of the lid next to the mycellium. but instead of throwing it out, i decided to put the mycellium chunks (making sure i did not put any of the mold in with it, of course) inside a plant pot and cover it with the miracle-gro potting mix. i put it up in a dark corner of my garage and forgot about it. well, about 3 months later, i found it and i thought all of the mycellium had died because i had left it in there for so long. i dug in ther out of shere curiosity, and pulled out a clump of dirt. i brushed at it and i found out that the mycillium was as healthy as ever, with no contams! i am at a point where i am not certain what to do from there, but i will just keep it as it is for right now until i figure something out. If there is anyone who could help me, i would appreciate it very much, thanks.
