Wondering if I can using filter discs on half pints to incubate agar/malt/yeast and will this speed up the colonization?

If you have a good strong strain it should cover that bottom of a 1/2 pint in 4-8 days what are you trying to speed up?? That is quick

Dimitri thanks for the response. I am going to try agar for the first time and was debating on the best strategy to go about it. It is nice to hear from an old pro such as youself. Just heard lots about the filter discs and was wondering to use one or just seal the jar with the lid.

Wait let's wiegh pros and cons then 1st. O.k. if you are starting out with spores first I do not reccomend trying to put them in 1/2 pint jars start strain isolation on petri's and then when you have a good clean culture. 1/2 pint jars are deep and you have to get in a bove the agar so your are adding risk of contams. If you just drop a wedge in you can do it with the lid cocked slightly. and less chance of contams in the deep jar. If you have more questions ask them. Once you get into agar it is addicting. Don't jump into right now wait and see what others have to say. Everybody eventually finds something that works for them. I hate rye and it hates me but I love wild birdseed and we work great together. egghead hates birdseed and it hates him etc...
