How To Find a True Teacher
    #3592767 - 01/07/05 07:39 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

"What does a confused seeker need to know?"

'There are two main difficulties in finding the way out,
but both can be overcome. The first is the rarity of a
teacher who really knows the answers. The second is the
inability and the unwillingness of a seeker to recognize
a true teacher should they meet. A sheep cannot recognize
an eagle. So fearing destruction of his false values at
the hands of a teacher, the seeker rejects the very truth
that could heal him. But if the seeker's pain becomes un-
bearable enough, one small and honest part of him can guide
him to a teacher and make him receptive to the offered truth.'

~Vernon Howard

Neat pic... feels kind of surreal with such crisp and uninterrupted contrast.

Is that a photo or a painting? hard to tell at that size. (But if it's a painting, that would explain why it seems a little surreal)

well what if the offered truth is the truth that the seeker wants to hear, a truth that is made up of false values that go hand in hand with the sekeer's view of what true values are?

doesn't bush have the same problem with the bible?

I just consider myself a student and life is my classroom, whatever or whoever I can learn a lesson from, is my teacher. I teach where I am needed. Life is a constant journey and re-discovery.. you can find a lesson in even the smallest of quirks or events.

"The second is the
inability and the unwillingness of a seeker to recognize
a true teacher should they meet. '

this is the biggest problem. I think if we were open and aware, we would find that everyone and everything around us is a 'true teacher' .. the scribbeld writing on a bathroom wall, the sun on the snow, that bum muttering on the bus, that beutifull girl.. all of them have something to teach.
