Half-life 2 WON'T install

When I try to install it gives me an error: "windows cannot read from the specified device", my drive is not messed up because I did a mock install of doom 3 and nothing went wrong, I even tried installing from my secondary drive. Oh yea....I have searched around the net and found bits and pieces of information but nothing has helped. I almost think that there could be something wrong with the game disc.

When do you get the error? As soon as you put in the CD? Half way through the install?

Faulty discs DO happen although rare, I've seen it firsthand.
Sorry I can't help.

You got a burner? try using CLoneCD to replicate the disc and install off that second disc - could be something wrong with that specific cd. If that doesn't work, download a warez'd copy and use your actual CD key when you go to install it - that should work.
Or, you could take it back and ask for another copy, but it's probably too late for that now.

You can always just install it off of steam. Just download steam from www.steampowered.com and install that. Set up an account. Then from the steam menu click browse games and then click the button on the bottom that says register a product I already own. You can then enter your cd key and install over the net.

Well, when I put in the CD the menu will come up, but the problem occurs when I click to install the game. I will try z@z's advice and report back.
