Secondary Hard Drive Issue

My secondary hard drive is a 80GB Maxtor, but it only show up as 31.4GB. My master drive is a 80GB Western Digital and that shows up correctly. I've tried reformating it a few times and it still shows up smaller than it is. Any ideas?

Check out your BIOS it may be on the wrong setting

In the bios it shows up as 32248 or something close to that. If I look at the properties of the drive and go under the volumes tab, then populate, it shows it as capacity 32248MB - unallocated 0MB - Reserved Space 0MB.

use partition magic to reallocate the space, i have a maxtor 250gb and it was showing up as 120gb after i formatted it recently. partiton magic fixed it right up. pm me if you need help finding it :stoned:

I downloaded the demo version and tried it. Nothing has been fixed. The drive doesn't have any unallocated space. I use to have this drive running at 80GB about 8 months ago. It's really wierd.

mine didn't at first either, i cannot remember for the life of me what i did to fix it, and don't have a way to figure it out again as mine is working properly now. mine read as 250gb for a while to then it just started to read as about half the size exactly like yours and they are even the same brand. mess around with partition magic, try to resize or redistrubute and see if you can figure it out. even if when you try to resize it gives you the 30~gb size just resize it to whatever it allows then check again to see if it recongizes the other half and just resize again. i know partition magic is the only thing i used and it worked, but i did have trouble with it for a while.

does the hard drive have 2 jumpers on the back? if so, remove the horizontal one. if it has a horizontal one, it is a limiter.

after all, if ur car stops, chek the gas first before you go through all the effort (a lesson learned many times when working on pc's)
