Design/Plans/and Many Questions about growing discreetly

Ok, so a friend of a friend of an aquaintence, if you get me, has recently decided to grow some shrooms. He lives at home with parents, so secrecy is KEY. He will purchase pfjars from www.pfjars.com to save time, and preserve secrecy. Then he will inoculate following pftek, and after colonization either birth the cakes or make casings. His design is the included picture. He apologizes for the crudity of the drawing as he was quite blitzed when drawing it. The nightstand is appx 3 feet tall, hexagon shaped. has a wall outlet near it for lights/gauges/heat. has doors in front to stay out of sight and dark during colonization, what do you think? how can this design be improved, secrecy gained, etc?

I'd say that if your looking for replys to this all your going to get is people saying. "Don't grow in your parents house." What i'll tell you is it'd probably be better for you to go out and buy the things to make the jars yourself rather then buy them online. I don't know about you but if I had received large packages when I lived at my parents I think they'd wonder what was in it. If you are ok with that then feel free to buy them, but making your own would save money and you could do it descreetly. Just sterilize the jars at night when they're asleep and your foafoaa should be fine.

The plan is pretty obvious. Make a tub-in-tub incubator and put it where no one is likely to look. Then when it comes time to birth, put your terarrium in the same place.
Seems like you have a good understanding of what it takes. Good luck!

Have any of you had any luck with growing discreetly?

It would be cool if you could drill a hole in the night stand under the lamp and then run the wire through the lamp and down into the night stand to power your chamber and the lamp. Your lamp and your chamber would work off the same cord. A better idea would be to use one of those reading lamps that are bolted to a table. That way people dont see the suspicious powercord.

i have a friend growing discreetly also, but not with parents. the issue seems not to be incubation and fruiting but rather how to dry them without causing attention due to noise of fan or dehydrator coming from the room. he is considering the 'reflector light' tek for drying but the issue becomes how to avoid attention of the light shining from where ever its put and also any possible fire hazaed. any suggestions or comments along these lines?

Go to target and buy the biggest and cheapest stereo you can find... Usually, if you open it up, you will find it is really a big empty box, with a walkman inside. and even the big speakers are empty... usually they are formed plastic and painted wood... with a headphone speaker there instead.
Tons of open space to do what you want... Just don't expect mass-production!

Your mother can tell my how many dimples are on your butt, how many cavities you have, your grades, your girlfriends deepest secret, where your porn mags are, if you are still a virgin, what your favorite vegtable is, how clean your underwear is, and what drugs you have tried... I am sure she can tell me where you are attempting to stash your mushrooms!

If his mom is my mom, then that's the truth!! They know all...BEWARE! I do not condone AFOAFOAA growing at the parents' home, but overall, the incubator setup looks dandy. I would assume that you will replace the incubator as a fruiting chamber when colonzation is complete. But...if some jars colonize faster than other jars, what are you going to do fruiting chamber wise? It's not like you can stick your jars in the fridge to halt growth (i can see it now!) You really need to put some thought into this. It's always a big risk when it comes to parents :P

Years later sitting with my parents, finding out what they knew about, that I didn't think they knew about.. Made for a great laugh. Thankfully I had some very cool parents.. Others aren't quite so lucky. You know your folks. Would they freak and turn you in if they found Mushies growing in your room? But it's a chance you take.. As far as advice.. I personally don't condone aiding a minor in something of this nature. No Offense, Please.. There is a wealth beyond dreams of information in these posts.. Kick back, grab the vices of your choice, and read, read, read... Most of it is plain and simple..
Trust No One over 21.. Errr wait.. 25.. No.. No.. 30.. Crap!.. Ok Screw it.. Trust No One..

I dont think his parents would be too happy to catch him, they wouldnt turn him in, but being kicked out wouldnt be too surprising. perhaps the best idea is to wait until living on his own. in the mean time, 4 bucks a gram isnt that bad of a price to pay. thanks for your help everyone! ill be sure to post on here for any other questions i have, thanks again.

keep your thermometer on the bottom of your incubator. It looks like you've got it at the top where heat will rise to so the thermometer won't indicate the likely temp of your jars.
Just go buy some regular wide-mouth canning jars, it's so much cheaper. I know this guy who needed to do a clandestine sterilization once so he got his roommate drunk one night so he'd fall asleep early. While the roommate was getting drunk/watching a movie he mixed up the cake/jars. Once he went to bed he set up the boiler and sterilized for 1:45:00. When that was done he let it cool overnight in his bedroom rather than in public view on the stove and the roommate was none the wiser.

I grow in secrecy but just for my safty sake of visitors..when you grow with your parents your putting them at risk to lose their house and everything..no matter how much they claim to not know about it they can still be held responsible as well as you if you are ever caught. Bad idea and I'm sure the thread will be locked soon enough if it doesnt die down. Wait until you move out of your parents house, tell your parents, grow at a friends house or grow outdoors.

Like I said I do everything in secrecy in my apartment. This is where I dry. The noise in the closet from the small fan in the dehydrator isnt noticable.
My fruiting chambers have fans in them so they make noise and I have HEPA's sitting in front of each of the closets which covers the noise and is easily explained as a smoke eater. You could try something like that or something else to cover up the noise if the closet doesnt block the sound out enough.

Sweet setup scatman... I should go for that less-obvious look... For the time being, I have convinced all the neighbors that I am growing oyster mushrooms to help clean up the world of petrolium waste...
LOL, I grow those too... (Funny, they are more proffitable than shrooms!)
I have a whole room dedicated to thier growth, and a corner dedicated towards shrooms. I was thinking of building a false wall in an odd in-set area of my room, about 4feet*9feet. You wouldn't even know there was a section missing, unless you compared my room to the ones above. Add a nice ugly "Wood Panneling" border to my whole room, and bingo! We have a "Silver Spoons Secret Area", or for you pedo's, a "Michale Jackson Secret Room".

I'm not sure if it was mentioned but that site is defiently a Rip....You can typically get jars locally for 6.99 for a dozen half pints and 9.99-11.99 for a dozen pints...and about 6-10 bucks for 6 quarts... Here's somewhere else thats cheap, only prob. is that the shipping is crazy, but its defiently a better deal then 6-12 for 50$...
http://www.goodmans.net/get_list_531.htm If this place is local to you then this place Owns...later and Good luck..and growing in secrecly....be ambiguous as you want, but regardless of how well you grow, and how secretive you keep it, i'd still have to agree to disagree on growing, but good luck anywas.

The point of the jars at pfjars.com is they come filled with sterilized substrate. A bit much to pay for PF Substrate but if you dont care about actually growing shrooms and just want some this would be better then a kit. Figure even if you only get 10 grams off each cake in their life (could easily get more), 120 grams..just over 4 ounces and a quarter...for 50 bucks plus some perilite and a rubbermaid. Plus fresher. I'd never do it..but I could see how it could be worth it to some people.

i don't really like ordering jars online cause during shipping they vibrate and the substrate packs down, significantly so sometimes, and makes colonization take that much longer go the distance, make up your own, you'll be proud in the end
it can be fun trying to hide things from parents, but something that could potentially get them sent to jail or lord knows what else might be too much of a risk... just remember that if your growing with a somewhat limited space, your setup prob. won't be totally automated, meaning you'll be messing with it prob. more than once or twice a day, and that just increases the chances of getting caught... keep the operation on a low scale till the risk on you, or your friends friends acquantances cousins former roommate

I have been growing under my moms nose for over a month now, and so far she has only found a list of supplies, and my night lights. She thinks im growing pot at my friends house. I have my terrarium in a large tote box used to hold keep sakes, in my closet. Every night I go in there, fan, mist, then put the light on it, then wake up, turn it off before she gets up just in case she goes into there for some reason. So far sucess.
