instead of 1/2 pint jars. Since I case anyways I figure I can just lay the casing on top after colonizing is done. Will this work?

it will work if you can figure out a method to sterilize then innoculate it properly. How do you plan to do this?

I am assuming that with the entire run any conatinimemnts would have to shouw up on surface. I can figure out a way to sterilize... I am a crafty SOB sometimes
BTW, I have pan cyans fruiting.... YES, this has been an ordeal

This sounds like a risky maneuver here,
like if youre colonizing grain in pint jars and something
is contaminated OH well, its 1 jar and chances are you
innoculated a dozen, but youre talking about using a big casing size pan; you got balls PoppaWoody.
But i dont see an advantage, besides not having to
break the pint-sized cakes up, which isnt bad for the
mycelia (i even hear that the mycelium builds itself
up even stronger after its broken up into a casing but
i could be totally wrong) and also you might want to
put a bottom layer of casing material under your big
cake, which might be a problem if its all in one piece..

The thing is that you'll want to block light during fruiting or you'll get pins/shrooms on the bottom (this is not just a rumor, you really will).
You can sterilize tins or glass easily in the oven. Just put them in oven cooking bags. Then you can remove the glass/tins from oven to workshop w/o getting them 'dirty'. Don't put the Pyrex lid in the oven, though, it will be ruined. Best bet there is to cover w/ foil or plastic wrap, then put the 'sterile as you can get it' lid over that.
Are you using grain or a flour-based substrate?

Flour based. I have not done a grain based TEK yet. However, I am doing one with wheat straw this week. I was simply amazed at how quickly a wheat straw casing colonized.

Did you shred your straw? Seems like it would be essential, just to be able to work w/ the stuff..
You can case right in the jars as well.

Actually, I did a littlke experiment. I took two identical casings. One I left in my grow chamber the other I took outdide and set under a palmetto bush. Mother nature does it best. In three days I harvested appx 120 shrooms from the one I stuck out side. The inside one has provided me with about 20....
What a fucking difference
