Help with tampanensis
    #3502534 -

Hi all! I'm new with tampanensis, I'm going to inoculate some rye grass seed in quart jars and I have a doubt about micellium breathing: can I close the jars? or I have to put a filter in the lids? (tyvek).
If incubation time is about 3 months will the micellium become dry if tyvek filter is put on the lids?
Thanks!

u will have to put in a filter.

such as tyvek or a hole stuffed with polyfill.

the substrate CAN go dry if there is too much air exchange,
so u want the hole to be small, like the o.
u got to consider leaving ur jars for about 3 months if u want to go
for sclerotia formation,
so u want minimum air exchange so they dont go dry.

Tamps take longer then Mexicana's and should go for 4-6 months. They should be fine with up to two small holes..thats what I have..just a small screwdriver jammed it.

I would suggest fruiting them, the mushrooms are very potent and I didnt find it difficult to fruit the rye grass..just put it in my chamber like normal, no cold shock or anything even. Casings will form more stones then jars as well..and quicker..well maybe not more in the end..but it will max out quicker. I've also found rye berries to be better then rye grass in stone production in both jars and casings, though I have yet to get rye berries to fruit after a few, and ongoing, attempts.

Rye berries do better for sclerotia on both the mexicana and the tampanensis?

I'm not sure, I've only experimented with Tamps. It would be worth a few jars trial if you have the time and means...

Also I have heard from RR and a few others that coffee helped stone production in both Tamps and Mexicana..most reporting double production. How accurate these results are I'm unsure but again, if you have the time and means...

Thanks

Coffee didn't hurt, didn't help on ryegrass seed with Mex A. Maybe it is Rye grain + coffee that works wonders.
