1st Grow Ever PF Tek Mexicub and B+ 01/10 Pics update

Please help me out in any possible, first time going I will need all the help I can get.

11/30- mixed brown rice powder, verm, and water. Put in jars up to where lid screws on then wiped inner wall of jar, and filled with dry verm. Before hand I took icepick and made 4 inoculation holes in jar lids and covered with duct tape. Put lids on jars screwed on loosely and folded tinfoil in 4 covered jars. Took pot laid dish towel down set jars in, 4 jars btw, then filled water 1/2 way up sides of jars. Boiled slowly with lid barely open, so water wouldn't start boiling more. Boiled for 1hour 20minutes. Took lid off and let cool.

12/01- Cleaned kitchen very thoroughly, was on xtc so it wasn't hard Took shower, put freshly laundered clothes on, got syringes out of fridge, got my Bic lighter, filled cup with some 91% alcohol, put gloves on, and took tinfoil off of jars. Flamed needle till red hot, dipped in alcohol, and shook vigorously, injected down the sides through the tape (just pushed syringe through the tape) 1cc in each jar, 2 jars i made Mexi Cub and other 2 B+. took a small cardboard box, just big enough for 4 jars sprayed with Lysol and threw jars in. Covered box in dark towel and a small blanket, and i placed in laundry room warmest room in house because of our old gas furnace. Oh yeah and I left the jar holes open and left lids as they were turned loose a little bit.

12/05- Mexi Cub is showing great signs of mycelium , nothing on B+ jars

12/09- I'd say MexiCub is about 60%-80% done some ropey stranded spots growing on them Still nothing on B+ jars except one jar has a spot of mycelium smaller then a dime.

Also forgot to mention the setup I will have, please all friendly criticism is welcome. I bought a 58quart Sterilite container, Holmes Ultrasonic Humidifier, still need tubing, funnel, wire mesh, plexi-glass cut to size for drip shield. Gonna place funnel on humidifier duct tape it down connect tubing to funnel and run to a 2liter bottle flute ends of tubing. I'm just gonna try 3 bottles instead of recommended 4. I'm planning on running humidifier 24/7. still need to figure out lighting situation, I have 2 big fluorescent lights but setup is going in my bedroom closet and afraid of catching clothes on fire, so I will keep everyone updated on all this. Also I'm planning on getting a TnT setup soon just kind of broke right now. All friendly advice is welcome.

12/10- Still nothing on B+ jars except one jar has a spot of mycelium smaller then a dime. Mexi-Cub has more ropey strands in it I'd guess 70%-80% colonized. Any suggestions on B+ jars?

12/11- Well... Same as yesterday. Weird seems like it will halt and grow sometimes, except B+ which is doing nothing. Went to Wally World and bought two 18gallon red totes ( gotta love Christmas time 8) ), a $20 fish tank heater, and an aquarium floating thermometer, it has a suction cup on it and I'm gonna put it inside where the cakes go. I am going to put a light blanket on bottom and put jars on it. If anyone notices anything I could do better please help first time, I can use all the help I get.

12/12- Had to guy buy 2 metal clamps to weight fish tank heater down, because suction cups really do suck. Temperature is at 84degrees right now. Jars are the same I flipped them upside down hopefully that does something. Anyone know why B+ strain only has 2 tiny spots of mycelium on them after 11 days incubation? Please help.

01/02- B+ jars are definitely contamed opened them up and almost spewed it was so rank. Might take pics tonight, all thats new on Mexicub jars is that they are having more rizo growth. Also I'm having trouble with the water condensing on cakes, I run my ultrasonic humidifier all the time 24/7. Oh yeah happy birthday to me today.

For future, consider:

Consider moisture of your media.
pH of your media.
Temperature fluctuations of incubator.
Ample gas exchange is occuring during colonization.

12/13- Temperature 84degrees inside incubator. 1 Mexicub jar had some water droplets inside? Anyone have any idea why maybe? And all progress seems about the same which has been nothing, halted for 3 days now. Absolutely nothing on B+ jars still, except the 2 little spots. Please help me, I need help. Shroom on!

12/14- Got knots on the ropey strands of mycelium in the Mexicub :smile: also have water drops in both Mexicub jars now. What can I do about that? Is it something I should stress over? Anyways, B+ jars still are acting the same, doing nothing.

Any ideas on what to do about water?

12/15- The 2 Mexicub jars are 95-99% done on the outside, the B+ jars are still doing nothing, except the one spot grew to about the size of a nickel rather a dime. I'm guessing Mexicub jars will be ready for dunking and rolling within the week.

That sounds like primordia....which look like bumps and turn into pins and then into mushrooms, it sounds like its been checked to much and recieved light, maybe that explains why the myc. in you b+ grows and stops? Ligt tells the mycelium to stop/greatly slow down and then it has those primordia bumps..you may want to take it out and fruit ity...it takes about 2-5 days...sometimes 10...for your spores to germinate, so it's normal for you to be seeing so little..and those ropey strands are rhizomorphs, it means you've got healthy mycelium growing...and the water droplets mean that you've got a bit too much water in ur jar....or that it's a bit to hot, either or, you decide....well gl and i hope i've anwsered all your questions lol, gl, later

The jars did get a little hot when I first got my Tub in Tub. I thought I had it set right and left, turns out I didn't temperature was at about 93degrees :frown:

12/17- Made Terrarium wire mesh on bottom plexiglass drip shield and 2 3liter bottles connected to ultrasonic humidifier which I plan on running 24/7 no hygrometer. Not checking growth in jars for 2 days now. I might check them when I get home from work.

12/18- The 2 Mexicub jars are ready to take a swim in the fridge, but I want to get sealant for the holes in 3liter bottles cut them with knife to large. The mycelium on the shrunken cakes, which is normal all cakes shrink, is starting to grow out towards the jar. Could this be invitro? Well B+ has grown a little bit but very slowly. I know exactly what it is to, first grow always wanna look at them. I only check them 1 time a day though and quickly.

12/21- Mexicub are ready to go I'm just stuck on my terrarium construction, I'm waiting on grommets for the tubing and 3liter bottle connection, my buddy grabbed some from work today. So I will go and grab them from him later then set terrarium up, and dunk and roll(cold shock) mexicub cakes. B+ has very little mycelium on them still. It's growing but so slow. The spots of mycelium are as big as a half dollar on one.

11 days IS kinda long since my last GT on WBS had 4 nice white 1 inch wide lines from top to bottom after 3 days. After 9 days on 70-80%.
I inocced syringe through breathing hole squirting in 5 directions.

Another jar on WBS with B+ is very slow though, I think the syringe is less viable.

Any light can induce pinning from what I've read. This is just my first grow and it's hard to resist looking at them daily, bad habit though. Hope this helps you, SHROOM ON! Merry Christmas everyone!
