I'm just new here (from Oz), and it seems most of the shroomers here are into collecting for consuming, so not sure if you will be interested in just observations....
....I have just found heaps of Cyathus stercoreus (I think....I'm just a beginner at this ID stuff), and thought I'd share my pics....(and I'm not sure if I have added the pics correctly to the site - seems others have pics rather than sites, so I have obviously done something wrong - but still viewable)
Can anyone tell me if the spores are ingested by cattle and then the fungi sprout on the dung when conditions are right, or do the fungi sprout on the dung from spores landing on the dung?

Those do appear to be Cyathus stercoreus. Nice photos.

Most likely the latter. The vast majority of fungus spores are fairly thin walled and destroyed by animal ingestion. The main group of fungi that have spores that survive being eaten by an animal are the truffles and false truffles. Their spores are so thick walled that they cannot germinate unless they have been etched by digestive acids.
Happy mushrooming!
