tape holes after innoculation?

After my friend innoculates her jars, should she:
(a) put the tinfoil back in place
(b) tape over the holes
(c) leave them uncovered
(d) something else?

i always tape and then put the foil back.
kind of a double safty deal.
However i've done both before and bothe work, however if collonization is slow just the foil can cause the cakes to dry expecialy if using a heating pad to incubate
