Need Help with Bulk Dung Pasturization

Okay I am trying to pasturize like 50-60 pounds of dung. I bought an outdoor turkey frying rig that hooks up to a propane tank and has a pilot light or something that you can turn up or down by adjusting the gas output. I also Bought a huge industrial metal trash can from lowes for like 15 bucks it says its made out of galvanized steel. My plan is I have all the shit in a huge linen sack and it fills the trash can a little less than half way by volume. First I'll put the can ontop of the flame and load it with water untill I get it to a boil(under 180 or whatever) and filled about half way then drop in the sac of shit in and leave for and hour weighted down with a brick. The thing is last night I put the trash can ontop of the burner and filled almost halfway with water but there were a couple place on the bottem that were leaking drops of water. It also started to make a wierd burning metal smell. I kind of got freaked and called it off for the night. Do you guys think the trash can will hold up to the heat/weight of the shit and water and what about the leaking its really not to bad I could just fill with more hot water gradually to replace?

Boiling point will be to hot for pasturization, in needs to be about 65*C which is about 120F??

cook it in the oven at 65C for 6-8 hours

Maybe you could locate a 55 gallon drum to use rather than a trashcan. My friend pasturized his straw that way. My friend now does his poo in a giant steamer made from a wall paper steamer , an ice chest with a wire shelf and a compost thermometer. He seems happy with his results.

i doubt the trashcan is going to melt. If it's made of galvenized steel it wont melt at that pathetic temperature. Just address the leaking problem.
170 F is optimal for 1.5 hours.

Do you ENJOY a hot :shocked: - wet :crazy: - stinky :crazy2:, heavy dripping bag of steaming DUNG. LOL??use the pillow case of dung in hot water?? method to pasteurize it.

If not????...

Get some aged ( as-in doesn?t stink of urine & crumbles - without much effort) horse dung, some well chopper straw that has been soaked in dung tea for a week, mix it together so it is compost like & find yourself some of these  CLICK HERE  at about any large chain grocery store.

Add water to your dung straw mix, to the point a few drops run out - when you squeeze it HARD. Fill HOT BAG with mix, insert a meat thermometer, crumple opening closed around meat thermometer, lay bag in metal tray & insert in oven @ around 275F.

In about an hour, eyeball meat thermometer & when it gets to 175F, adjust oven to maintain that temperature for 3 full hours.

Once done?..remove bag from oven, remove meat thermometer from bag, crumple bag closed & store overnight - TO COOL TO ROOM TEMPURATURE.

NOW ...... :grin:YOU HAVE YOURSELF A BIG BAG OF PASTURIZED DUNG/STRAW BULK SUBSTRATE. :tongue2:

For large oven pasteurization batches (around 50 pounds - per oven run), buy 2 disposable (turkey size) roasting pans, one for each oven rack & cover them tightly with aluminum foil (insert meat thermometer through foil). It takes time to get the internal temperature up to 175F (like overnight), but it works well.

Years ago my FOAF bought an old large kitchen stove (@ garage sale for $20), placed it in his garage & used it for that sole purpose. Later, he spotted large metal roasting pans (with handles) at a thrift store & used those, rather than the disposable ones.
