Down with anti-depressants
    #3369158 - 11/16/04 02:05 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I guess everyone is different, but I want to warn most of you to never ever take anti-depressants.

You may not be able to tell from my posts, but i've been off of my Effexor since November 3rd and since then i've been going through one of the worst depression episodes of my life. I never know what mood i'm going to be in from one day to the next and the slightest thing sends me spiraling into suicidal anger.

Say a little prayer for me.

I'm on this Zyprexa shit, it's been a bit over a week, and nothings really changed.

Been there, done that, regretted it, wish you luck. I'm surprised. You don't seem like the type of person to be on anti-depressants, but then again I only know you vicariously through the boards.

Not only will I say a prayer for u but also for me !
I've been off of Effexor since Nov 3rd too !!!
man talk about coincidences !
How much were u on ?
I went from 300 mg ! (yea, crazy psych gave me more than
the max 225mg dose) slowly down to 75mg and then quit
on Nov 3rd. They also cut off my prescription suddently
(Bastage docs).
I was also on 1mg Xanax 3 times a day ! for Panic disorder
and severe Anxiety and 20 mg of Starnoc (again double the
dose !) for a full year and the docs just cut me off - now
they say I'm addicted and need to go to an addiction center
(well duh ! first they prescribe me one of the most addictive
meds and then say this and just leave me out to die).
They even gave me all sorts of other wierd meds (Desyrel -
and old SSRI, which magnified my anxiety and gave me horrible
realistic nightmares - 3D surround sound type :smirk: and
Immovane another hypnotic).
Worst part is The Effexor never helped me and made things worse
and getting off of it has made things yet worse !
They gave me Celexa for a while which kinda suited me and, while
didn't make me a happy cheerful pup, at least it didn't make me
feel weird and worse like the Effexor...so naturally the docs
stopped the Celexa (crazy sadistic docs). They've basically stopped
all my meds and think I'm just a junkie who's abusing Benzos.
I never abused em and they presribed em for me !
sometimes I feel the med system is just criminal... when they
can't manage to help someone they immediately put the blame
on the person to relenquish all responsibility on their part.

Bellylard: I'm not trying to tell you to get off it, but these things are no joke. If you don't need them, stop.

s2dope: Interesting that you say that I don't seem like the type of person to take anti-depressants. Why do you say that?

Lucid: That is crazy. November 3rd for you to??? Wow, what a coinsidence. I can not believe all the medication that they had you on. That's insane. How could any doctor think that someone needs to take all that?? Man, you seem to have it worse than I do. I really wish you all the luck in the world. Let me know if you need any support. I'll be here for you.

Thanks man :sun:
yea, doctors can be "abusive" in a sense quite often. Especially
with SSRIs - cause everyone has marketed to them that SSRIs
don't cause any dependency. Well anyone who's taken SSRIs will
know that they do - and only a small population can stop them
cold turkey without any withdrawal symptoms. In my case SSRI
withdrawal was much worse than Benzo withdrawal. Benzo withdrawal
simply causes anxiety, maybe insomnia but doesn't make u feel
discombobulated, disoriented, emotionally and mentally unstable,
and generally a complete wreck... SSRI withdrawal can and often
does all of these things. Worst part was that they were always trying
to stop the Benzos and give me all sorts of wierd meds like
Desyrel (and old SSRI) which REAAALY made me freak out, then
they gave me Wellbuterin which also increased my anxiety and panic.
Then they tried Paxil which made me sleep most of the day... I mean
it's just cruel what they did. I had one REALLY BAD exp at a hospital when my paranoid mom called the cops on me thinking I was
suicidal so they came and took me to the ER where they planned on
restraining me, I got so terrified I had a panic attack and escaped
but they caught me, restrained me, then injected me with Haldol
(an anti psychotic drug which acts as a MAJOR Tranquilizer on
non psychotic people like me) and also injected me with Valium -
this was so severe on my system that my bladder stopped working
and I was in ABSOLUTE AGONY - worst pain, I've ever felt - to be
honest if I had a gun I'd have shot myself at that point, the pain
was so unbearable, then they stuck catheters in me which was horrible
and painful and even then my bladder would fill up in a few hours
and then I'd be in agony and no one would attend to me. I was in
so much physical pain I started yelling at times, so they locked me
up in the psych ward and there I suffered for hours in agony ultimately (thanks to any cosmic force out there) my bladder started
barely functioning as the tranquilizers were wearing off and I slowly started to be able to pee. But I was in agony for a whole week
and in a daze for a whole week cause of the Haldol. I was literally
tortured by these people to the point where I  have a fear of Hospitals and would honestly rather be dead than to have to go to one. Unfortunately, this is Canada so I can't sue...it's government
paid health care so "I should be glad". I don't trust doctors at
all anymore and - hate to say this - especially in the West doctors
have no empathy, cause they've been taught in school to be emotionally detached from the patient. This is breeding doctors that
just don't care about  patients, even those in great physical pain.
I was in such agony and the docs were just exchanging pics from all
their vacations in the  Bahamas and discussing that all the while
I was yelling in pain.
Yup it's quite a horror story indeed. Now that I havn't been cured
they've stopped my therapy sessions (they said "Therapy cannot help
u...u're problem is that u're just an addict to Benzos" - which is
shocking causee they prescribed the Benzos to me in the first place
- I never even asked for em). They stopped all  my medication and
told me to go to an addiction center (which has a 4 month waiting
list) - I figured I'll probably be dead by then :frown:
oh well, I'm to blame, cause I took the shrooms, damn me

I was on effexor for a while I had no positive results whatsoever from it. I beat my depression by smoking a small amount of marijuana every morning. I took about 2 hits from a one hitter and it helped much more than any antidepressant ever did. I never smoked enough to get "high", but it took the edge off and I dealt with my depression.

I couldn't smoke any weed before work. Just smelling it makes me a little lazy and too chilled out for my job. Glad it works for you though.

Bio: Thanks brother. I appriciate that. But man, it sounds like Lucid is going through something far worse than I am.
