trouble reading

when i read something sometimes i dont get it and i have to read it over several times and i'll be thinking about something else and sometimes i'll read half a page and not know what it said and it's really frusterating! anyone know what i can do?

Do you smoke alot of weed??? If so I had very similar problems. I'd read the same page numerous times and it wouldn't sink in.

I used to have that problem. Then I sparked a bowl and read something I gave a crap about and all is well. HOnestly it sounds like your kinda distant and your mind and body aren't all thogether so your thoughts wander while your reading. disassociate whatever it is in life that may be pestering you when you pick up your reading material and care about nothing but the book/article. Others wise... I donno, quit smoking pot? (<-- that just the easy/pussey way out, jk(to some extent))

I don't really agree with that after smoking the shit for 9 years. :wink:

I can now take in shit I don't really care about but which stands me in good stead at getting a damn good job rather than stumbling around in life and never getting anywhere! :smirk:

sometimes it's worse when i'm high but my comprehension for some things changes for the better. like yesterday i got high and then started reading some poetry i had and it was much better and enjoyable, but then i'd start "not" reading it and it was frustrating. but when i did get it it'd be better. sober i can't read stuff like that because it's not literal enough or something.

If i am stressed out i have a hard time reading. I keep getting distracted. My eyes will continue to move over text but i dont take it in and start thinking about other stuff before i even notice it ive got thru a half page and dont remember any of it.

try reading out loud
(not necessarily loud - just lightly spoken)

maybe that'll help you maintain focus.

I have the same problem althoug I'm getting better at it.
it has to do with concentration. also when I smoked pot the evning before I can't concentrate well the next day on reading that is. other things like playing guitar no probs just reading. But reading needs no be done for studying.

What also helps me if I really need to study longer for exams and for long reading sessions that I have to finish is focus mix tea. This is a powdered herb mix with things like ginseng etc and works pretty good!

You prolly have ADD or ADHD its the most prominent symptom. Research it Aderall fixes it real quick just take it as directed don't abuse it or life will get really really bad.

I do the same thing.

Also, whatever I read makes total sense but if you asked me 2 minutes later what I just read.. I couldn't tell you.

I found that a lot of coffee and studying in public environments helps a lot.

Try a coffee shop.

I've actually had wonderful experiences getting high and reading. My reading skills have exploded exponentially come to think of it. Too bad you're having adverse effects, weed or no weed.

THC or no THC, I have horrible concentration on reading.  I do the same thing as you, having to read it over and over before some of it sinks in.  Unfortunately, it's usually only the text that enters my brain rather than the concept I need to adhere to, no matter how many times I read it.  :frown:

You could take adderall, but personally I wouldn't because I dislike the idea of being prescription dependent.  It might be stress and tension that causes the poor concentration.  I think that is what the problem is for me, and I've been looking into taking an SSRI again to see if it helps anxiety/brain chemistry (only temporarily though).

You could always quit marijuana for a few months and see if it helps.

I'm the same way. It comes from having a short attention span and not being interested in the reading material. Either read something you're interested in or don't read at all. If it's something you need to learn for school try finding another source for the info.

EDIT: If you're looking for ways to fix this, try to lengthen your attention span by avoiding TV and computers as much as possible for a week or two. Attention span does come back, it's not shortened forever. And if you're uninterested in what you're reading, either get high like others said or just change your state of mind to being curious about things you've never read before.
