plastic cup experiment
    #3327247 - 11/06/04 10:12 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I'm taking those throw away picknick cups and I am PC'ing 1 right now, to see if it will melt. If it doesn't melt I see no reason to not use them, as they are clear, and of good size.

Oh yeah, and if this has been done before and found out to be a friggin mess, say so now

Also they are 470ml, would that make the cake to big? Is there such a thing as a cake that is to big? :P

The PC is cooling down now and I don't smell melted plastic, if there isn't a reason not to have bigger cakes, then I don't see a reason not to use these.

The cup shrunk into a little bitty cup. So this does not work, it was fun to try though.

Sorry if I saw it I would have told you it wouldnt stand up to a PC. If you look on the bottom and the number in the triangle is a 5 and it doesnt say "PP" below..chances are it wont PC. And if it does, chances are it will.

The reasons for not having a bigger cake is colonization time and not much more shrooms. You just make the cake bigger..it will give you bigger shrooms (thicker substrate) but it wont give you to much more. Not as much as making 1/2 pints. You can do pints though..they're like 400 ml or something? Why wouldn't you try this first? Another reason is removale is difficult on larger jars and jars work best. You could use glasses or jars if you can find ones that work but the top can't go in at all and most jars over a pint the top is tapered in.
