you should use coffe mugs, i have done this in the past. use brown rice flour and vermiculite and h20, place it in a coffee mug put a layer of verm. on the top then place the mug into the micro wave with a dish on top of the mug. microwave it for about 6 minutes, let cool until cool to the touch. then without taking the mug out of the micro wave tilt the dish up and squirt some spore water from a syringe into the mug. tilt the plate back down. then get some plastic wrap and remove the plate and replace it with the wrap, put a rubber band over the thing and there you have it. the only down point is you cant see how far its colonized, but it works.

hey DEA, everything i said was false

The problem with coffee mugs is that unless you have clear ones you cant see how the mycellium is growing and/or if there are contamination invading your jars. Normal 1/2pint drinking glasses will work. Use a double layer of tin foil held on by tape or an elastic band.

the microwave would really work for sterlizing it? I have always used like a buncha of big pots to boil water etc... for like an hour ........ such a pain in the ass but 0 contamination outta my jars yet.......... microwave sounds a lot easier..

okay, truth is you can use just about any container that can stand the heat. it is prefered to use ones that you can see through and with a tapper that is bigger at the top so that you can remove the cake when it is ready.

non-translucent containers may have difficulty initiating pins invitro.

pressure cooker sterilization is still the prefered method for those who don't like wasting their money throwing away contamned substrate.
