i have an idea of trying the honey tek with only a nuke, what'ca think? is it doable?give me head till i'm dead 8~D

Er.. I wont lie, most everything I've done so far has been with a microwave, and actually, it's been working. Microwaves get REALLY hot really fast, and heat things past points they can go with just boiling, so they probably kill any contamination pretty quick. Just have to worry about dehydration of whatever you're using. You don't even want to know what else I've been skimping on with a lot of luck.. But anyway yeah, it worked for me. I can't remember any specifics, I just popped the jar in until it seemed enough. I've innoculated with the stuff, and it grows, so.. yeah. One problem though, NO metal in the microwave. Anyway, good luck with it =)

P.S. - I don't recommend you start taking shortcuts like these unless you really can't do much else.. It's just that I'm in a situation where I really have to keep things discreet. (I mean REALLY, don't use that as justification)

Sure it can be done and it's quite easy. I used this tek with success. Try this:

[taken from the archives at the original mycotopia]

Materials

1/2 pint wide mouth jar
bottled water
1 tsp honey
saran wrap
rubber band
masking tape
microwave oven
2 cup microwave safe measuring cup
Sterile spore syringe
Disinfectant such as Lysol or bleach water in a spray bottle
Pot holder or oven mitt

Procedure

Have all materials at hand so you can work quickly.
Put about 1 1/8 cups water in the measuring cup.
Add about 1 tsp honey to the water and stir until dissolved.
Place the cup and the half-pint jar in the microwave.
Fry on high for five minutes
Open the microwave do not remove the cup and jar.
Working quickly within the microwave and using the potholder to protect your hand, pour water into the jar to about the bottom of the threads. Stretch saran wrap over the top of the jar and secure with a rubber band.
Let cool to room temperature.
Clean a working surface such as a table with a disinfectant such as Lysol or bleach water.
Mist the surrounding air with the disinfectant.
Working quickly inoculate the jar through the saran wrap with a sterile spore syringe using about 2 cc and cover hole with masking tape.
Incubate at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Once the mycelium has grown, shake to distribute the mycelium, and poke thru the saran wrap with a sterile syringe and suck up the white mycelium, cover the hole with tape and save for further use.

To be sure, just hit it with some h202 when you get germination...5-7days or less depending on temps

The 3% stuff is the ratio inside the perioxide bottle, forget about that number because allmost all perioxide bottles are 3%. Just mix one portion of H2O2 with 10 portions of destiled water, in other words a 1:10-h2o2:water ratio.

2 ? for you. what would a contam. look like in a honey/h2o jar and 2nd- does the temp effect myc growth time?give me head till i'm dead !

if the temps are around 20-25c then they will germiatne quicker and grow quicker - as soon as they germinate, id hit a 100ml jar with about 4-5 mls - and you will notice that this just about kills the mycelium, but i innoc. PF jars the next day and i get zero contams and rapid colonisation!

just watch it when you nuke it i walked out of the room to get some paper towels when i came back 15 seconds later half the jar was empty.that was following amd's microwave honey tek. I think it was 4 mins. I found 2-3 works great for me on highest setting.
