I know there are those of you that use heating pads for whatever reason, me included.
Behold.
External temperature probe, LCD temperature display, ?0.1?F.. what more could you ask for?
I'm going to pick one of these babies up soon and hard-wire my heating pad into it.
Just an idea. I'll try to post pictures and a comprehensive writeup of the project when I do it.
I wouldn't recommend this project to those who don't have at least basic knowledge of electronics and safety.

You could just plug the pad into one of these. Put the sensor in with the jars and when it reaches the right temp it will shut off the heat pad and turn it on when needed.

Yup, that'd work too! Where can you find those?
Oh, petstores? Yeah.
Edit: EEp! That thing costs 40 bucks at PetSmart.
Looks like they're ~18-25 including shipping on eBay. Not too bad. I don't see an LCD readout on it though, which I like to have. The waterbed heater controller was also like 18$ incl. shipping, if you don't mind doing a little handywork yourself.

Its funny you should post this now because i just picked up a repti rheostat and a heating pad yesterday and cant get them to work. They're both the same brand. It worked for a while then quit. It may be that i just need a bigger heating pad. Mine is about 6x8 roughly and the jars are less than an inch above it but they won't get more than 75 degrees. I'm looking for the post about tub in tub incubators now. I'm fed up.

Tell Kramer that those also work great for controlling tub in tub incubators. Turn the heater up all the way and let the rheostat control it. Works great because it goes off of the temp near the jars and not the temp of the surrounding water.

ya Kramer has his hooked up to a 1500W space heater in the closet, no fire worries with that dries things out a little but he has adjusted everything for that and things are just running smooth as a freshly shaved snatch! thanks for all the help! Kramer says he could have never made it this far without ya!

no, Kramer got his at a hydro store and it will control up to 2500W or 3500W not sure.... but that is a good tip.. DO NOT EXCEED manufacturer's specs! so no it is not the exact same one ...just a little better...well worth $40
