found a bluing shroom in European pasture
    #3283239 - 10/27/04 09:32 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

My first post here

I was hunting for mushrooms in a cow pasture in the southern Netherlands, there I found two mushroom, one young and one adult, that looked just like Ps. cyanescens without the wavy caps. They turn blue heavily when bruised and the color of the spores assured me it's a psilocybe species.

The mushrooms were found in the pasture nearby the neighbouring forest.

I'll try to examine the spores under the microscope next week. Can anyone point me to a pic of Ps. cyanescens spores?

Thanks

I think this is it: psilocybe caerulea

Bluing but no psilocybin, isn't it? :frown:

(I wonder what causes the bluing process here then..)

Psilocybe Cyanescens spores are purple-brown. If you found only 2 specimens, and you say one was adult, there should have been alot more.

I doubt it is cyans and erowid does not list Psilocybe caerulea as psylocibic.

If they "turn blue heavily when bruised", and they key out to Psilocybe (Purple-brown spores, pellicule...) then you have an active shroom. If you want it IDed to species then post some photos and a proper description.

Not sure if you are aware shrmmoy Dan but there are 115 known specie sof psilocybe with psilocne/psilocybine inthem and more than another 90 specise of Psilocybe which have no psilocine/psilocybine in them.

Also, other genera like naematoloma and Agrocycbe also macroscopically eresemble psilocybe mushroms as do Hypholoma, of which the later has six psilocybian species.

mj

Just becaseu a shroom has purple spores does not mean it contains psilocybine/psilocine.

But if it has a pruple-brown spore print, AND bruises blue, there's a good chance that it is an active Psilocybe.

Hjalmar said that he had determined it to be a psilocybe but was concerned that it was the inactive Psilocybe caerulea. I was just letting him know that blue bruising is an indication of activity within the the Genus Psilocybe.

It is my understanding, please correct me if I'm wrong, that Psilocybe caerulea and other inactive Psilocybes do not bruise blue.

the blue colour of Ps. carulea could be mistaken for blue bruising....

Need some pictures and a good description though to have any idea what they are.
