flame for needle sterilization

ok i know a regular lighter will leave that black residue on the needle after you sterilize it. is that stuff ok i mean can i just wipe it off with rubbing alcohol to clean it off

To tell you the truth lately I have been innoculating with just swiping with alcohol. I use the oven tek though (basically working over an oven rack with it turned on) and Ive been doing fine. But to answer your question, yes you can take it off with the alcohol. Good Luck.

I just do a swap of needle every jar. Just sterilize them in bulk afterwards.

I was just using an alcohol wipe for my first grow, it worked fine.. but I did get 2 contammed jars. No idea how the contams were introduced though.

So lately I've been using my propane torch. Hot, clean burning flame.. heats up the needle almost instantly. No need to buy a fancy alcohol burner when you can pick one up for 10 bucks, and a canister of propane will last forever.

i've found if you're using the oven tek on a gas stove, stand up, turn on a burner and flame the needle that way also.  No residue will be given off and you still have the hot air coming up from the oven. :smile:
