if you entitle yourself to your own facts (which someone can and some do), then you are denying anothers opinion. to deny anothers opinion is undermining being entitled to "your" own opinion.

opinions are just interpretations of "the facts"

and the facts are just peoples opinions that most people agree with.

fact. trees are biological entities.

fact. abortion is immoral.

fact... one of those first two is an opinion.

fact... im wondering why the hell im typing any of this?

It's similar to the sig you used to have: "You can believe what you want, but the universe is not obliged to keep a straight face." In other words, you're entitled to think what you want, but you're not entitled to be right.

All I know is that you might be right.  :grin:

See, that's what I hate about law, but I've accustomed myself to this anomoly (sp?). 

The facts are the facts.  However, you can omit some facts, and enhance some facts, and make the whole scenario more palatable for the judge. 

However, again, I can enhance other facts, and omit even other facts, and the whole scenario changes. 

This just totally irritates me.  A fact is a fact.  I don't get that you can enhance some and omit others.  One should tell all facts, but be persuasive about the facts that are more favorable to one's position.

I'm learning to be a good criminal law attorney.  :grin:  Don't admit anything, and if you are lucky enough to have had your constitional rights violated, it doesn't matter if it's a fact that you are guilty.  Just get the "fact" thrown out.  :grin:

If you want to go that deep, then facts overall dont exist, since the perspective can be true in its circumstances.....Then whats the RIGHT perspective? Since everything is just an idea, its also just an opinion. So everything is an opinion from the highest perspective.

There are two types of truth. Truths of reason and truths of fact.

Example of a Truth of reason: All triangles have three sides.

Example of a Truth of fact: The Great Pyramid was built in Egypt.

Truths of reason cannot be otherwise; they are necessary based on the principle of non-contradiction.

Truths of fact are contingent necessities; The Egyptians could have decided not to built the great pyramid; its existence was contingent upon its builders deciding to build it. It is necessary now, however, because it was built and the past cannot be undone. Someone could tear it down but that would not change the FACT that it was built in Egypt.

The one who says that each person is entitled to his own facts is simply trying to change the meaning of the word 'fact'. Changing the meaning of words to give them completely subjective interpretations defeats the purpose of language, which is by design a means for communicating ideas.

Using written language to claim that words have no objective meaning is oxymoronic.

i think that the egyptians did not build the pyramids, it was all a sham.

it was the greeks, but the egyptians erased all knowledge of this so they could get credit I JUST KNOW IT.

if i believe this is a fact, how can you change me OPINION of the FACTS?

facts are supposedly concrete, but in reality, they are not.

the only kind of true fact is whatever you are doin/thinking/being right NOW is fact, and then it is only fact to you, until it is gone. to anyone else you could be not telling the truth. THEY WILL NEVER KNOW. so facts are just as illusory as opinions and marbles.

I'm not trying to change your opinion. Of course you can have any opinion you want. Your opinion however is irrelevant to the fact that the Great Pyramid was built in Egypt or the fact that the earth orbits the sun.

There are many people with contradictory opinions, there however cannot be two contradictory facts. This is inherent in the definition of the word fact. One could argue that facts do not exist and that words can only convey opinion, but that would only be his opinion, :smirk: and If everybody believed that then we would still be living in the stone age.
