if i were to cut a few 1 inch holes in the pmp and stuff cotton balls in them or coffee filters over them would this exchange gasses enough to eliminate my opening and fanning 3 times per day?

You don't need to fan with PMP. The air pumps provide enough fresh air.

don't need to cut holes in your pmp either...
just so you know kramer harvested 147 wet grams off of 1 half pint cake(millet/verm) this morning
once a day the cakes are sprayed to the point of saturation...yes even after pinning
so?
spray those cakes!water delivery! it is all about the water!
don't ever let them dry not even a little.

A word of caution with the PMP.. If you use perlite, I've found that it becomes compacted, and does not allow very much air to flow at all. I was getting nervous because I wasn't getting any pins for the first 9 days or so.. then I started fanning, and BAM...

You can hear it.. instead of a constant solid bubbling sound, it's more like "bloop.. bloop bloop... bloop".

If you can, use geolite. Even lava rocks would be better, but they're heavy. I'm going to get rid of the perlite ASAP.

kramer uses perlite...he loves it!(unless he is cleaning it!)
he has mentioned that he would like to try geolite or coral,maybe even broken pieces of brick would work...
