Substrate shrinking but no mycelia showing...
    #324341 - 05/23/01 03:57 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

ok, one of my jars has the susbstrate shrinking in the top half, i remember when i innoculated them i inncoluated one in just the center, but im not sure if this is the one, i didnt label them detailed, just strain labeled. Anyways, the bottom half is the same size as when it started. could if be possible that the mycelia is just growing in the middle and eating as it goes making the substrate shrink? should i give a week or so before i open it to investigate? its about 2.25 weeks old.... all of the other jars are about 70-90% white.... annyways, any response is greatly appreciatd

o, one more question....

a few of my jars have condensation on the inside of the jar wall... could this pose a problem? none of the mycelia is blueing or anything like that, and none of it is touching the water. if it can cause a problem, please tell me how to get rid of it.

After 21/4 weeks, it sounds like dehydration...it also sounds like germination didn't occur. If it had, surely it would have reached at least one spot in the sides by now. Possible unseen contam?

The condensation is normal...

At any rate, I'd just curb the loss on that one and move ahead..

I'd disect it...

Like I said, if it hasn't taken off by now chances are it won't...

Report back if you find anything.

ok, i opened it up, and used a spoon to scoop away the vermiculite

low and behold a bright white layer of mycelia, so i said, well, fuck it, and cased it in some cow shit and woodchips mixed with potting soil and peat.

but yea, i think your right, if it didnt take off by now it wouldnt ever, cause there was only a large ball of mycelia underneath the white layer, the rest was just plain old brf and verm.

thanks for your help..
