Substrate shows no veg. growth
    #401572 -

I cased 12 250 mL brown rice Flour and Verm cakes a month and a half or so ago or so... Equador's..
cased them with a verm and peat moss 50/50 mix
1 inch on the bottom, one inch on top..
I got a bunch of mushrooms from it,, (not very much at all) like 2 g's dried..
and then nothing was realyl growing and there was soem dark green/blue contams.. so I removed all the soil.. and put some verm on top that was wet..
And its been like 2 weeks and tehre is no pins, and there is no vegetative growth either!
They are in a perlite chamber that I fan a lot every day..
the verm is still moist..
Could the cakes be bone dry under the moist verm since I never mist them?
ANy idea what I should do.. there should be a lot of nutrients left in the 12 cakes..

Oh..
the new verm layer I put on is just a thin layer to cover the cakes too.. the cakes stil haev a bit of residual peat moss on them from the last casing layer though..

My only plan is to perhaps initiate mycellial growth by super deep scratching through the verm layer into the cakes a lot..

Be very careful now that you have had the dreaded green mold. Most times when your hit by it, even if you clean it all away, no fruits will grow. the mold also probally went through the mycelia network leaving its poison with your mycelia as well. Be cautious, it might be best to toss them.:)

well it wasnt green.. it was more blue/brownish..
and I got rid of all the dirt mostly.. way underneat h the surface where it was growing.
12 cakes man.. i hope its not wasted. Im having very bad luck with contams these days. lost 48 jars because of Flies which go in the holes in my jar lid and lay eggs inside which caused contams.

so bluehoney, assuming I have room to keep the casing. what do u think my best course of action would be?
Just leave it, or might I need to agitate/adjust the cakes in some way.

The reson you see no vegatative growth is because mushrooms are a fungus not a plant !

Sorry, just giving you a hard time!

if you only got two grams off of 12 cakes, they were allready contaminated. you have gotten in over your head. toss the mess into the backyard, maybe nature can repair the damage. start over, use PF tek, get cakes to grow shrooms directly from the cake. when you have gotten to the point that PF tek is easy, then you will be able to recognize the moisture and contam related problems you are experincing. sorry can't be of much more help, need more info. I think everyone else is in about the same fram as i.
