Heating and Tanks

I just got rid of my aquarium heater (one of those tubes), it wasn't in water, and it cracked. Kept the heat up though. Now I just got a terrium/lizard heating pad, but it says in the instructions to stick it to the bottom and not let water hit the glass directly about it. Now I was going to use a perilite / vermiculite mixture for the floor and mist the sides for humidity, but I don't want the floor of the aquarium to crack!!!! Any suggestions? also I have one tank and one rubbermaid tub with a lid, and I was thinking of one for incubation, one for fruiting. It makes sense to use the aquarium for incubation since the heating would be easier. But the only thing is then I have to cut open the lid on the rubbermaid to use that for fruiting when the tank already has a clear lid. Comments?

Dont worry the pad wont crack your aquarium... Just remember that the more you heat the aquarium the more humidity is driven out of the air. Make sure every thing is fairly air tight. Also there is not an adjustment on the reptile pads or rocks and they are factory set at about 100 degrees. If you have any electrical know how you can install a rehostat to turn down the heat... Good luck angel Peace......

My friend uses 18 gallon rubbermaid to fruit his casings. As far as colonization of the casings he has had good luck with covering the casings with foil immediately after they are put together. The foil will keep the humidity up. He then places the covered trays on top of the hot water heater for 5 to 7 days uncovers them then places them into the rubbermaid terrarium hummidified with an ultrasonic humidifier heated with a reptile rock turned down as I described earlier. The temp on the water heater stays around 87 I couldn't tell you the R/H under the foil. The temp in the terrarium is maintained at 75 and the R/H at 85-92%. Light for 12 hours a day The shock from the water heater to the terrarium really initiates pinning. So in short rubbermaid for fruiting and a water heater for colonization. P.S. He also places his jars on the water heater after innoculation..... Colonization has been rapid for cakes and casings Peace....
