Whats optimal cacti temp and humidity?

Has anyone read or have any experience for what temps cactus grow best in? Like pedros, torches, Pereskiopsis, and peyote. I would imagine 75-85F and rather high humidity around 80-90, like a greenhouse.

Im growing indoors under floro tubes on a bookself. I was thinking of possibly adding a plexy door to the front to raise the temps and throw a small, quiet PC fan up top.

una had a post about low temps and lots of water. made them grow really fast. ill take a boo for th post.

I never saw this thread, could you be kind and direct me to it? I always thought cacti grow fastest in summer when its hot and humid, like plants. How low is low 75F?

I have not seen Una's post also. I'd be interested in seeing it.

I can tell you from experience that my cactus grow best in the spring and in the fall. During the summer most of them seem to grow slower though I don't have definitive proof of this fact.

The fact that they seem to grow slower in the summer may be due to living in the Southern US and my cacti are pot grown. The roots may get too warm for real productive growth then.

This is the first year I am going to try to force the cactus to grow all winter by keeping them at 70-75 F and going with 12 hours of MH lights a day. The smaller cactus will be grown under 4x40 watt flouros for 24 hr/day to see how they grow.

Una used 24h light, which is what made growth fast. Low temps and high humidity were required to prevent the stomata from closing.

Right now I have them on 18/6 because i cant sleep with the lights on. Temps are 75-85, humidity 60-65. I have an ac so i think i'll set it to 75-76.

higher humidity helps them grow faster, but too high can lend to rot. The reason the high humidity helps is cause it might influence the stomata to open during the day (just a guess on my part). In cacti, the stomata aren't open during the day because they'll loose too much water. That's why they open at night and gather up CO2 for photosythesis during the day. Look up C3/Cam plants for more info.
