To Tool Troll, no I don't usually repot them every year, more like every 2 years, sometimes 3, basically just when they seem to need it. As for the blooming, it is a possible theory I suppose, although I'm pretty sure that the cacti like to have a good amount of phosphorus for when they bloom. I've seen friends' cacti that have bloomed for several years and then stopped blooming once they stopped fertilizing them. However, I'm really no expert on the blooming of columar cacti, theres probably books / websites / other members out there with more detailed info.

And to Lorax, I repotted most of the cacti about 2 months ago. The one thats flowering now is in a 50 liter pot. I've had pretty much all of these cacti for between 3 - 5 years, a few of the smaller ones are cuttings from the bigger ones, and some of the really small ones are seed grown ones that I've found at stores etc. I live in the South Island of NZ Aotearoa  temps are feeling pretty subtropical for the past little while, most days around 25-30 C during the summer, and plenty of sunlight hours.

Yep it's real friggen hot for this country right now, I cannot step foot in my glasshouse during a blazing summers afternoon. I love that pic above the monstrose of the pedro with 8 ribs and the pup, such uniform growth.

Nice flowers, those black hairs show that without a doubt it is a Juul's Giant. Did the flower last through the morning?

Pics are awesome and I would encourage everyone to post whatever they can of their plants, I hope to have a camera soon.

>PS, anyone have any thoughts on the possible T. peruvianus?

I have some Peruvian torches of the same age, and they look very very much alike. So I would say yes, but it could indeed be a little early to know 100% sure...
