Blue light versus white light
    #3136310 - 09/14/04 08:28 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

I've heard that fruiting using a blue light instead of a normal white light will produce pins faster, and more of them.

How true is this?

Would using a blue incandescent lightbulb be preferable to using a white compact flourescent?

You want a light that has a large about of blue in the spectrum. Their are a couple ways you can figure this up. Shine a light into a prism if the band in the rainbow contains alot of blue then you have a good light. alot of people use florecents becuase of their high blue concentraitons! Using a BLue incandecent probably wouldnt give any diffrent results than just using a flourescent IMO. if you have a blue one you could try it. This hobbie is largely Trial and error. Keep that in mind!

theirs alot of blue hues and violets in natural lighting hence the need for lots of blues. Thats what helps make things grow.

So if you had a blue incandescent, and a white compact flourescent, you'd use the CF instead?

Ive used a daylight CFL with astouding results. Too bad i didnt fan enough since it was my first and most aborted but i havent seen as good a pinset since i broke the light. Cool floro tubes work just as well.

It will work but apparently there are better routes to take. CFL = Compact Floro Light? Where can The Dude get one and how much will it run him?

Compact flourscent bulbs are basically just flourescents that can be screwed into any standard light socket. The one I've got ran me like $5.

You have to realize that the blue is already there, you can not add more blue by putting anything between the light source and your setup.

The light source itself should have a certain amount of blue in it. Natural daylight has plenty, fluorescent tubes have plenty, an incandescent bulb has some.
