I got sick.

Hey I ate some mushrooms that were in my opinion mutated (the gills were kinda warped and slight discoloration) About a week later i go to the doctor and find out i have a bacterial infection in my lungs. Do you think eating contam mush could be the aggressor in my sickness. I thought the worse that would happen is a stomach ache maybe some vomiting montezumas revenge ect ect am i wrong? Can you actually get bacterial and viral infections from contamed mush?

Yes you can get serious infection from eating contaminated shrooms. The worst is when you snuff some mold spores. Will you please explain what you mean "mutated". Maybe this was not contamination?

I really doubt it. A person eats/inhales so much bacteria every day. . .even if you ate a putrified mass of black cubensis, it wouldn't cause a lung infection.
Were the mushrooms dried?

Yeah, the only problem is when you snuff mold spores, believe me it's the worst thing one can do. Eating contaminated shrooms not always leads to infection but it's possible.

no they werent dried they really werent that bad looking, thats why i ate them, the gills were kinda mutated deformed thats about it, slight bluish dicoloration.

If they werent dry and the spores werent flying everywhere then there is very little chance your infection was caused by the mushrooms. But there still is that very little chance.

I think you should ask your doctor. You can tell your doctor anything, they can't breach the confidentiality contract. So tell him and see if he thinks its caused by mushroom spores, though I doubt it.

Just got back form my doctor, he says i most likely caught it from someone plus im a smoker so that makes me more suceptible to lung infection.

Yeah probably just one of those things that goes around, especially this time of year.  Coincidence.  I have something like whooping cough right now, but also a smoker so probably just leftover from the cold I had last week, and not infection related.

So then is this a post about how you're personally contaminated? :smile:

I'm trying to quit smoking... it's rough. I have one left and i'm dying to smoke it right now...

It probably is not from inhaling mold spores because we inhale mold spores everyday. Theres plenty of mold and other crap in the air that when conditions are right will begin to grow.

You probably just cought it from someone like your doc says.

Oyster mushroom spores have been reported to cause alergic reactions. The allergy appears 4-6 weeks after initial exposure and can appear within hours in pre-sensitized people.

The book I was reading this in says that having good ventilation and wearing a dust mask is usually sufficient to prevent this.

People can become alergic to almost anything, so I don't think that it's unreasonable to think that it could happen with PC or other mold spores.

I don't believe for a second the mushrooms caused this... I have yet to see 1 documented case of someone being poisoned from a "contaminated mushroom" if you have a link or info please post it...I don't mind being wrong but unless the mold actually touches the shrooms(or the shrooms develop a bacteria infection which is quite obvious) I don't believe there is any threat

honestly I think ppl are way too over cautious with molds and bacterias....I've been around them my whole life...haven't you ever had fruit start molding from sitting too long in your kitchen or piece of bread thats been in the bag too long...I realize there is some threat but I think ppl get a lil over paranoid with molds and bacteria's

I agree with you Iamthewalrus... However people can become alergic to almost anything. So there is some small danger, no matter how infintesimal.

how bad can sniffing the mold spores be?...what sre the symptoms?

not to mention mold spores are all around us at all times...thats how contamination gets started in the first place...if this wasn't the case growing mushrooms would be much easier :laugh:
