well into the pasture i went today, no mushrooms yet.
lots of good rotten haystacks and dung, soon i suppose there will be pickins. but they havent let the cows out yet.

under last years dried up cow dung were small fungal nodes. im thinking some sorta sclerota? dont really know for sure, but theres lots of it. brought back a few and here they are

heres 2 wood loving mushrooms i found.
one actually appears to be closer to a dried up member of a different fungal family

hmm, well thats definately a good thing. paneolus subbaltaetus dominates the region as far as dung goes.
next up on dung in the spring is P. oliviaceus and castenifolies.
this sclerota doesnt show any bluing as far as i can see. hmm, now that i think about it, is there any safe way to ID wild sclerota? i bet not.
tho the only poisonous mushroom ive ever sen anywheres near dung was conocybe terena, and it never grew on it like this does. do poisonois mushrooms produce dung-loving sclerota? is it worth collecting? i dont expect a positive answer if its not available, and nobody should expect that i will eat this if they suggest it. because i wont, i will simply plant these in my newly well manured (spent mushroom compost/topsoil) lawn before planting grass seed.
but im curious, because there is a great deal of this sclerota on the underside of practically evry one of last years dung droppings, which incedently last year i picked various species of paneolus on.
